The product, in the report: This is a 54” tempered clear glass table. The table top is clear glass. The pedestal base is a dark wood. It was purchased from Thomasville furniture in Scottsdale, Arizona. The manufacturer is Canadel furniture, a Canadian company. It was delivered 9/25/17 so we had the table for under 6 months.

This was a 54” round tempered glass table top with a wooden base. It was delivered to us on 9/25/17. It was purchased from Thomasville furniture in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was manufactured by Canadel furniture, a Canadian company.

Late on the night of 3/19/18, a few hours after we had gone to sleep we were awakened by a loud explosion followed by the sound of crashing glass. We were frightened and at first we thought that someone was trying to break into the house. When we went into the dining room we saw that the glass table top had exploded into bits and slivers radiating over 10 feet from the table base and leaving some shards of glass imbedded in the walls. We took some pictures and spent the next three hours cleaning up the glass.

The next morning, after a few hours of more extensive cleaning, I made an initial contact to CPSC. We were very concerned about the exploding glass and how dangerous that is. We were fortunate that we were asleep in another room when this incident happened. The potential for serious injury was apparent to us.

We reported the incident to the retail store and supplied photographs that were time stamped and dated. The store manager said he would report this to the manufacturer. He arranged to have to have the chairs and base repaired since they sustained damage from the flying glass. He arranged for a loaner table top to be delivered to us. As yet, the manufacturer has been reluctant to make good on their warranty.
