  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Apr 19, 2026, sent to the company May 5, 2026, published by CPSC May 19, 2026

The product, in the report: Burkhaus Coffee Table, Burkhaus End Tables, and Burkhaus Sofa Table

On July 26, 2025, I purchased a Burkhaus coffee table, two Burkhaus end tables, and a Burkhaus sofa table from Ashley Furniture in Maple Shade Township, NJ. When the coffee table and end tables were delivered on September 30, 2025, the bedroom set and mattress from the same order were missing. Upon unpacking and arranging the tables, I discovered that each piece was unstable and wobbly on our carpeted living room floor. Despite allowing them to settle overnight, the instability persisted, posing a safety risk, especially with a small child in the home.

I promptly contacted Ashley Furniture customer service to report the issue and request a return but was informed the tables were final sale and not eligible for return. I clarified that my concern was about product safety, not buyer’s remorse. After multiple visits to the store and discussions with managers, one manager agreed to make an exception and arrange a pickup, but the pickup never occurred. Further follow-ups revealed that the required authorization email was not sent, and later, customer service stated no returns were accepted due to the final sale policy.

I appreciate the Burkhaus design, but the tables instability presents a tip-over hazard that was not apparent at the time of purchase. For over six months, the tables have been stored away to avoid risk to my child. My attempts to resolve the issue with both the store and Ashleys corporate office have been unsuccessful. As a result, I am submitting this product safety complaint to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and request urgent attention to this matter.
