The product, in the report: night stands with night lights underneath the stands The lights have a low, medium and high setting. (stands are included in a 5-pc set but can be purchased separately)
(03/11/2015) Each night stand has a halogen light underneath the unit. The light is about five inches from the floor. The consumer discovered that the light gets very hot. If anything touches the light, it could possibly catch fire. The stands have a touch switch on the side of the unit that turn the lights. The consumer stated that the lights can come on if the switch is touched accidently. This is also a problem because he has touched the switch during the night while he was asleep.
The consumer did not see a UL label for the lights.
(03/12/2015) The consumer contacted the company and advised them of what happened. A representive was sent out to investigate the unit. The representative advised the consumer that the bulb was hot because that is what happens with halogen bulbs.
The consumer was offered a store credit for the night stands. The consumer advised them that the complaint was not with the stands but the lights under the stands.
The consumer stated to please find the attached picture of the UL label the he thought was not present, and to note that it says, “Caution: Risk of fire, install only in open top cabinet.”
The consumer also added Bob’s Furniture did replace his two night stands with new ones the have safe LED lights installed. The consumer noted when he asked if Bob’s furniture was going to issue a recall to the other customers that purchased this bedroom set, their answer was not a definite yes. Consumer also noted they [Bob’s Furniture] were going to have to come up with a plan on how to deal with this problem.
The consumer indicated he was told by the contact person at Bob’s Furniture, [REDACTED], that the manufacturer of this furniture set has corrected the problem by installing LED lights from this point on.
