The product, in the report: Bera Design / Bera Smart Furniture. Zen Series. https://beradesignshop.co.uk/collections/zen-series
We are reporting a serious safety hazard involving a folding table manufactured and sold by a UK-based company (Bera Design, Bera Smart Furniture, Zen Series). The table was shipped to us in Switzerland with inadequate packaging and without any safety instructions, warnings, or assembly/unfolding instructions.
While we were carefully unpacking the product as intended, a dangerous spring-loaded mechanism suddenly released without warning. The heavy metal table legs violently swung outward. One metal leg struck my husband directly in the forehead, while another struck me in the throat. Both impacts were caused by the table’s own mechanism during normal unpacking and handling.
The injuries were severe. There was significant bleeding at the scene, and both of us required emergency medical treatment and ambulance transport to the hospital. My husband suffered a deep head injury that required stitches. I underwent medical examination for possible fractures and other injuries to my neck and throat. The resulting medical expenses were substantial.
The danger was not merely the result of poor packaging. The table itself appears to contain an inherently hazardous spring mechanism capable of releasing unexpectedly and generating significant force. Had the metal bars struck a child, or had either impact landed only a few centimeters differently, the outcome could have been fatal.
After the incident, the manufacturer initially acknowledged responsibility and, following pressure from Etsy during a dispute process, agreed to cover our medical expenses. However, once the hospital bills became available, the company stopped responding to communications and has ignored our legitimate requests regarding compensation and product safety concerns.
When researching the company further, we discovered that the same product continues to be offered for sale in multiple countries, including through [REDACTED]. We are therefore submitting this report because we believe the product presents an ongoing risk of serious injury to consumers and should be investigated before additional injuries occur.
