The product, in the report: 72” Carson 5 Shelf Bookcase with Doors - Threshold™ bought at Target
The bookshelf was secured to the wall with the safety wall anchor that is supposed to protect my child and prevent tipover. It did not my child attempted to reach something on the third shelf and the entire bookshelf fell on top of her. Luckily a curtain holdback on an adjacent wall caught the bookshelf and stopped it from completely crushing my child. She is okay, she has bruising on her forehead and arm. Many items on the shelf and bedroom were ruined due to the collapse.
The bottom line is, this product was supposed to be safe and we installed the safety anchor as instructed and it failed. The design flaw is the safety strap, which was still anchored to the wall but detached from the back of the bookcase. This could have been a much worse incident and I don’t want this happening to someone else.

No one hurt Made Oct 29, 2014, sent to the company Nov 10, 2014, published by CPSC Dec 5, 2014
The product, in the report: White 3 shelf Bookshelf from Target with fault anchor straps.
We bought this bookshelf from Target two weeks ago. It is rather large (4 feet tall,) so it is fairly heavy. It came with a safety strap to anchor it to the wall. It was a strap made of nylon webbing with a metal eyelet on each side. One was to be attached the shelf, the other to a stud in the wall. My husband, [REDACTED], installed the strap and leaned the shelf forward to test it (the bookshelf was empty, and he was still somewhat supporting it with his hand,) and the strap IMMEDIATELY broke. The eyelet separated from the webbing and the bookshelf came down. I don’t think it was just a fluke or that we had one bad strap because the eyelet in the other side was halfway torn away from the nylon as well. Luckily when this happened, it was just My husband testing it and not my toddler climbing on the bookshelf full of books because she could have been very seriously injured! We’ve all heard the horror stories of furniture falling on toddlers. I hate to use Facebook to bring attention to this matter, but I have emailed and called Target about this incident with no reply to either attempt to contact them. I really think it is dangerous to sweep this under the rug, and I don’t want to see any children get hurt from this bookshelf falling on them. It is not unreasonable for parents to expect to trust the safety equipment that comes with their furniture, and the strap that comes with these shelves cannot be trusted!
