The product, in the report: 48” Oak Medicine cabinet with 6 lights and three mirrors, middle mirror slightly larger of the three

I purchased my home in 2010 and this medicine had already been installed in the bathroom. In 2011 the center mirror fell after the hinge broke in half. The same year, the right corner fell hurting my daughter causing lacerations to her head. This past year in December 2014, the left panel cracked as my son opened the cabinet. No one ever sent anything to the house to inform me about the recall, I was not the one who purchased the mirror, but the address of the mirror never changed.

I went to Lowes with a picture of the medicine cabinet and the customer service representative told me about the recall on these cabinets.

This is a wall mounted medicine cabinet with three swing out mirrored doors. The right hand door fell off in my husband’s hands as he was opening it. He was able to catch it before it fell. Made Oct 21, 2011, sent to the company Oct 31, 2011, published by CPSC Nov 15, 2011

The product, in the report: RSI Model Numbers 64136 (2 of these) and 64148 (3 of these) Bathroom Medicine Cabinets - White - 36” and 48” Has “Estate by RSI” on the box

We purchased 5 of the RSI bathroom medicine cabinets, model numbers 64136 (2 of these) and 64148 (3 of these) from Lowes on Nov 23, 2009 (3 that day and 2 a subequent day) for our home remodel.

When taken out of the package my husband noticed one had glue that was not sticking well so he took it apart and reglued it. This one has not fallen apart.

The glass doors fell off one of the model 64148 we installed. It was in our guest bathroom and when he opened the door to get something inside one glass door fell off and chipped the vanity. He quickly grabbed the door before if fell on the floor and that is when the glass cut his hands. As he stood there (bare feet, bare hands, bleeding) another door fell off and he didn’t have hands to grab it. The second glass door fell onto the vanity, shattered and sliced open his leg and foot.

My husband took a look at how the doors are held on and decided they were poorly designed and poorly made. To avert further injury he took took the 4 installed vanities out and threw them away. We have one that’s never been installed still in the box.

While shopping for replacement vanities at Lowes we told the salesman what happened and he said they were recalled. I called the recall number (888-774-8062) today and the person was not very open to discuss this issue since we did not purchase the product in their time frame of August 2007 to October 2007 per your alert #08-533. She basically told me told me that there was nothing they could or would do.

I am requesting that you expand the sold “to / from” dates to include additional products. We are very fortunate that out daughter is a medical professonal and was there to help. Please contact me at [REDACTED] for questions / further details.
