  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 6, 2022, sent to the company Jul 11, 2022, published by CPSC Jul 25, 2022

The product, in the report: The product is a medicine cabinet made for mounting on the surface of a wall or recessed into the wall. Ours are recessed. The Home Depot web site describes it as a “24 in. W x 30 in. H x 5 in. D Frameless Recessed or Surface-Mount Bathroom Medicine Cabinet with Beveled Mirror.” This cabinet was installed in 2015 by the builder of our house, and we had selected it from offerings by Home Depot. We do not know exactly when it was purchased.

The product is a Pegasus brand medicine cabinet, 24 in. by 30 in., model 1002545172. It had a door with mirrors on both the front and back. Two of them were installed in our house when we built it in 2015. Recently, the door on one cabinet fell off in the middle of the night and the mirrors on both sides of the door shattered. Apparently, the door is held onto the hinge assembly by a thin foam strip with glue on both sides. There appeared to be nothing other than the glued strips on the edges of the mirrors to keep the door frame together.

The product, in the report: Pegasus SP4582 24 in. W x 30 in. H x 5 in. D Frameless Recessed or Surface-Mount Bathroom Medicine Cabinet with Beveled Mirror

The mirrored door fell off the medicine cabinet and smashed all over the bathroom. The glass is not tempered so there were huge shards that would have lacerated anyone in the bathroom.

The hinge was still attached to the medicine cabinet, the entire double sided mirrored door was only held on by some double sided tape. There are several reports on the webpage at Home Depot about other people having exactly the same issue.

The product, in the report: Pegasus Medicine Cabinet ( sold by Home Depot) 48”x 31” recessed or surface mounted tri-view beveled mirror Model Number 202588344

Glass medicine cabinet door fell and almost landed on a child. It was not an installation error as the door didn’t fall off the hinges but off what looks like a glues on frame. Glass shattered but I was able to stop the whole things from crashing onto my child.

This is a Pegasus Brand medicine cabinet. Pegasus is a proprietary brand of the Home Depot. Model number 202588344
