The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Kitchen cabinet window inserts

Our kitchen cabinets have window (glass) inserts. The inserts have a pattern of glass pieces that are soldered in place. We noticed a large amount of white powder in the cabinets and covering the inside of the cabinets and falling into adjacent drawers. I contacted the manufacturer without a response. I also contacted the builder since the home was just built in 2005 and again without any response. I obtained the name of an environmental assessment firm from the EPA website. Their assessment revealed that the lead solder is oxidizing and the whIte powder contains exceedingly high concentrations of lead. I have a copy of that assessment available and photos of the lead powder. I contacted the manufacturer again with my concerns about the product but they never responded nor did the builder. My wife and I were checked for high serum lead levels. Fortunately they were normal. We discovered the problem just before our grandchildren visited and we prevented their contact with the lead powder. I am a physician and am concerned about such a product being commonplace. The manufacturer is in Canada. The builder has built many homes similar to ours on Marco island, Florida.
