How badly anyone was hurt

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 29, 2022, sent to the company Sep 1, 2022, published by CPSC Sep 16, 2022

The product, in the report: IKEA Hemnes bookcase white bought in 2020. I had the replacement pins as described in the safety announcement here already in place https://www.ikea.com/us/en/newsroom/corporate-news/safety-announcement-hemnes-bookcases-and-glass-cabinets-pubd05feb07

My Hemnes bookcase shelves fell through the pins. I followed the safety announcement here https://www.ikea.com/us/en/newsroom/corporate-news/safety-announcement-hemnes-bookcases-and-glass-cabinets-pubd05feb07

This was already confusing because Ikea already knows this product is an issue and we ordered our bookshelf in 2020 after IKEA already sent a message with this product safety issue and we got the older pins.

Regardless, I got the extended pins. That did not help and this time the shelves fell and cascaded down and fully collapsed.

I got very lucky I knew this bookshelf is not stable and I reacted quickly but my hand almost got crushed and I almost got badly injured from falling books. For context I wasn’t doing anything one bookshelf just fell through. I tried to clear the books and fix it like I normally do and then the top shelf fell on the next shelf onto the next shelf and luckily I had just enough time to move myself away.

I have called IKEA and notified them about this safety issue.
