The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made May 30, 2011, published by CPSC Jun 22, 2011

The product, in the report: Sobakawa Cloud Pillow, a bed pillow filled with highly flammable “micro-air beads” made of expanded polystyrene foam. The cover is made of polyester and spandex. Both the pillow and pillow case are labeled as flammable and not washable.

Purchased from their website a Sobakawa Cloud Pillow as seen on TV infomercial. Nowhere on the TV ad or website or anywhere else prior to purchase is there any mention that there is a safety hazard with this product. When I received the product, the label on the pillow and an insert in the package states that the pillow is made of highly flammable material that burns rapidly, depletes oxygen quickly, and releases hazardous gases when burning. Both the pillow itself and the pillowcase are labeled as hazardous. This is a product made for use by a sleeping person in a bedroom, so the safety hazard is unacceptable.

Furthermore, the seller charges a high shipping/handling charge which is not refundable. It seems clear that their sales strategy is to fail to disclose the unsafe condition of the product to encourage sales, while making the high cost of returns a deterrent to consumers to return the product.
