I purchased a ComforPedic Loft Memory Foam + Cool Gel Classic Bed Pillow made by BeautyRest in November 2016. The reason I bought a new pillow was because I was having some aches and stiffness in my joints as well as trouble sleeping. The other reason is that my cat, [REDACTED], was sharing a pillow with me and there wasn’t enough room for the two of us.
So, I bought this new pillow. According to the statements on the packaging, “great for back, side and stomach sleepers”, “premium memory foam cradles your head and neck providing the perfect balance of comfort and support” and “top layer of revitalizing gel keeps you cooler throughout the night so you sleep better and wake up feeling energized”.
I put a case on the new pillow and put my old pillow next to it for [REDACTED]. She was happy as a clam. I, on the other hand, had a very different experience to my new pillow.
Within a few weeks of using this pillow my morning aches and pains became progressively worse to the point where I was having trouble even putting on a pair of socks in the morning. I could hardly move. My sleep pattern was terrible, the worse it had ever been.
Then, I developed an entirely new type of pain. My shoulder and neck areas, both front and back, were painful to the touch. It was like I had a bad sunburn and those were the areas that touch the pillow.
One night several weeks ago as I was trying to sleep the pain was so intense, not only the ‘sunburn’ pain but also my neck, back, arms and shoulders. I felt like I had been dropped out of a 5 story window onto pavement.
I kicked [REDACTED] off my old pillow and swapped it for the [REDACTED] gel pillow. Within a few hours I could literally feel the pain slipping away and was able to sleep. After about 2 days the ‘sunburn’ pain also dissipated and has not returned.
An interesting part to my story is that [REDACTED] absolutely refused to sleep on that gel pillow when I swapped it and ended up sleeping with me on my old pillow. until I took another pillow off the spare bed for her to use. She uses that one just fine but the gel pillow she would have no part of. So, even the cat knows something is very wrong / toxic with that BeautyRest pillow!
