The product, in the report: Aluminum espresso maker, 150ml

I purchased a Home Basics 150ml stove top espresso maker this week. The manufacturer is HDS Trading Corp in North Brunswick, NJ; their website is http://www.hdstrading.com and the part number is EM00327.

When I put it on my stove over low gas heat, the handle melted off and fell into the burner, and the knob on top began to soften and melt. If my roommate hadn’t spotted it, there might have been a fire. The plastic on this item is in no way heat resistant, and will burn.

I have photos of the damage if desired.

The product, in the report: “Home Basics” 8 Cup Glass Stove top Coffee Percolator, purchased at King Kullen Supermartket No. Babylon,NY 11703. The “D” shaped handle broke off from the “screw” attached to the metal band around the glass pot. Thus falling on my right foot and hitting the two toes (next to the big toe) then bouncing the complete pot of FRESHED BREWED HOT COFFEE all over my kitchen leaving the handle in my hand. Thus the incident caused a blood clot/ and injury to my toe and slight burn from the coffee, since I am proned to bruising/clotting due to medications. I was able to immediately treat myself.

A glass 8 cup stove top percolator’s handle, broke/popped off of screw from pot’s metal band filled with HOT COFFEE fell on my right foot and crashing all over my kitchen floor. Injury to my two toes on the right foot from the hot coffee and the FULL pot hitting the toe’s has left a bruise/blood clot (since I am sensitive to bruising and bleeding due to medication). The item was purchased at the RETAILER: King Kullen Supermarket in North Babylon, NY (RTE 231). The handle of this pot was shaped similar to the letter “D”,( Home Basics 1.8 Liter), when I went back to King Kullen, they had another glass percolator called [REDACTED] @$15.99 this handle is shaped like an upside down “U”. I have used this glass percolator style pot for many years, and other than normal wear and tear never needed to be replaced. NEVER ! did I ever have to replace these pot’s (all purchased from King Kullen Supermarkets) because of damage such as above. The handle on this pot never felt sturdy enough to hold, the “screw” holding the handle and the metal band still remains on the pot, connecting the band, as to the handle it looks as though the screw popped and went right through the hole. I am unaware of how to reach the company “Home Basic’s” as another manufacturer (whom I trust) was able to find it online. I do see it, but there is no contact. Nevertheless, I will be purchasing this style percolator from a trusted mfr. :[REDACTED].
