Emergency room Made Jan 14, 2019, sent to the company Feb 5, 2019, published by CPSC Feb 21, 2019
The product, in the report: Italian stove top coffee maker.
My husband purchased the 9 cups Bialetti Moka Express 3 weeks ago. We have used this type of coffee maker before and never had any issues. Somehow with this new one my husband cleaned the coffee maker and he didn’t realize that the filter fell off of it. That has never happened before. He started making coffee and the coffee grinds went up blocking it, and it exploded on his eyes, face and chest. This happened on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10:30am. He took a cold shower to clean his eyes from the coffee grinds and we run to urgent care. They treated him, and sent us to the burn center at the hospital and to an eye clinic afterwards. It was horrifying. My husband was in extreme pain. He has superficial burns in his eyes and around his eyes. He has not been able to go back to his normal routine. Something needs to be done about this product. It’s extremely dangerous. That filter should not come off easily. It needs a better and safer design. It needs more control before more tragedies happen.

No one hurt Made Jan 12, 2017, sent to the company Jan 26, 2017, published by CPSC Feb 16, 2017
The product, in the report: Bialetti Brikka stovetop coffee maker
Our Bialetti Brikka stovetop espresso maker has TWICE overflowed while on the burner, which has resulted in boiling hot coffee spewing out and down onto the gas range. Luckily, we have not been burned, but could have been if we’d been standing closer to it or had it on the front burner.
This coffee maker has a design flaw that leads to the fluid rising up out of the pot. The handle has also become repeatedly loose, resulting in the pin that falling out. This poses a danger to any consumer who is lifting it or holding it while it contains hot coffee. It’s very dangerous and I believe the manufacturer should recall it.
