The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Verilux Happy Light VT20

Verilux Happy Light VT20 My daughter was cleaning her room and laid the light down on a bed so she could vacuum and left it there on its face not realizing she had by accident turned on the lamp. The lights are great when they are on but another few minutes and we would have had a fire. As it is the house has smelled of acrid burned plastic. The plastic lens got hot and melted over the 4 bulbs and turned brown while melting the rest of the lamp. I realize the manual is full of all sorts of warnings, but in reality the lights get used. The light had been off for hours, so it was not hot when it was laid down. The switch simply got bumped.

If it had a safety switch like portable heaters this would never have been an issue.
