The product, in the report: Silver framed double glass shower doors written in white on unbroken door unitex tempered ANSIZ97.1-1984 16 CFR 1201 11 SGCC-2575 1/4 U

My 8 year old son was finished taking his shower and went to slide open our glass framed double shower doors to get out when the door suddenly imploded. The noise and our son screaming was heard by his father and I in the kitchen and we ran to investigate. Our son stood soaking wet covered head to toe in small bits of glass and surrounding him were piles of glass chunks that were trapping him in the shower. The force of the implosion caused the bathroom floor also to be coated in glass with pieces landing as far as into the hallway. After my husband carefully picked our son up and removed him to the other room I was able to gently remove the glass bits that were covering him and wash the rest off of him in the other bath. He sustained two minor cuts on his foot that I applied antibiotic ointment to. However, he was psychologically traumatized by the incident and was weeping and shaking uncontrollablly from fear even hours later when he thought about it. He swears now he will never use that shower again or any glass shower. My husband vows no more glass showers. The cleanup was ridiculous. It took hours for us with two vacuums to get all the glass bits and pieces. Many items in the shower had to be thrown away because of the film of glass covering them. I too ended up with a small cut on my thumb from the cleanup. The one door of the two that didn’t break had the words Unitex tempered ANSIZ97.1-1984 16CFR 1201 11 SGCC-2575 1/4 U there were no other identifying marks and the doors were in the house when we moved in 6 years ago and used regularly in a gentle manner. I don’t know how to contact the manufacturer since it’s looks like they are located in china and I can’t find a website. I think these type of glass shower doors need to have a safety film that if broken keeps it from scattering glass or a warning label affixed permanently that this can happen. We had no idea this could happen. Surprisingly his injuries were minor because my son jumped back into the corner got on his tippy toes and closed his eyes, but what if it was an elderly person who couldn’t react as quickly. Please do something about these doors to keep people safer!
