The product, in the report: Belleview Swivel Counter Stool sold by Ballard Designs
These counter stools (Belleview Swivel Counter Stools from Ballard Designs) are very top-heavy and easily tip over if you do not center your weight while sitting on them. My 82 year old mother tipped over in one of these shortly after I got them. Luckily I was sitting next to her and caught her, although the stool went over with a crash and damaged my wood floor. I thought it was a one time incident but a stool tipped again yesterday with a 3 year old on it. These stools are extremely heavy and I am lucky it didn’t land on top of the child. They are so top heavy that it is even difficult to right them after they have tipped over. The problem is dependent on how a person is positioned in reference to the legs of the stool: if you sit so that your legs are on each side of a leg of the stool, the chair is stable. But if you are sitting so your legs hang in the wide area between any of the stool legs, the stool will easily tip over if you slide forward or even lean your body forward. Since the seat swivels, you really can’t be sure where you are positioned in reference to the legs of the stool. The diameter of the seat is so large (19”) children(or smaller adults) will have a tendency to sit more off center so their legs can hang down. If they have swiveled to the wrong area, any sudden movement can cause this stool to tip over if the occupant is already off-center.
