The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. First aid

Made Jul 10, 2017, sent to the company Jul 18, 2017, published by CPSC Aug 1, 2017

The product, in the report: Patio chairs - Allen & Roth Safford swivel bar chairs receipt number 151737 purchased at Low

My wife and I were sitting in our Allen & Roth Safford swivel bar chairs on our deck and drinking our morning coffee. Then, without warning the chair I was sitting in collapsed causing me to fall back and down hitting my head on the patio railing, scraping my left leg, and hurting my left hip and leg. After I was able to get up from the deck I made it into the house to sit and evaluate if I needed medical attention from a doctor or could handle the injuries at home. My leg required a bandage to stop the bleeding, my head had a slight bump, and my hip & leg were sore where they landed on the broken chair pieces while hitting the patio deck.

It was only after tracking down my receipt for the chairs and table, spending time searching Lowe’s web site for this product’s warranty information, did I find there was a recall on this product. I am extremely upset I was not notified by Lowe’s or the manufacturer about this recall. A simple letter or call would have saved me injury!

Made May 1, 2017, sent to the company May 9, 2017, published by CPSC May 30, 2017

The product, in the report: High bar stool patio chair, “This recall involves allen + roth brand Safford model and Garden Treasures brand Lakeview model bar chairs sold in sets of four. The chairs have a brown, aluminum frame and a beige sling fabric cover. The 4-foot-tall chairs swivel 360 degrees and have arm rests on each side of the chair.”

I have a set of bar stools purchased from Lowe’s between May and October 2015. They are in use on the balcony of our condo at Indian Rocks Beach, which we rent out for vacationers. One vacationer recently reported that a chair ‘broke’ and they put it in the dumpster. I was angry as suspected it was misused, but then another renter (who is also a friend) reported to me on April 22nd that her husband had fallen to the floor when the chair he was sitting on snapped in two. I contacted Lowe’s who have been trying to fob me off asking for a receipt and telling me they were out of warranty. When I explained they were a safety hazzard they began to listen but NO ONE told me they had been recalled - I goggled the issue and came across this website.
