The product, in the report: Casper Hybrid Mattress

I purchased a Casper hybrid king mattress in August 2019. Mattress comes with a 10-year warranty. In January 2021 I noticed that the mattress was coming apart and showing the foam. I emailed Casper support and after a very long email exchange that spanned months they said it was normal and there was nothing they could do. In late 2022 the mattress continued to tear and now the mattress filling is jutting out. Emailed them again in October 2022, again there was an email exchange that spanned months with numerous delayed responses on their end. They said they needed the mattress tag to process a return but there was no tag on the mattress. According to them, the tag was on the mattress cover, which is removable. I had taken the mattress cover to wash at the laundromat and unfortunately my items (including the mattress cover) were stolen so I no longer have it. Again, there is no tag on the mattress itself, which seems illegal. Even though I put a new cover on the mattress it is not the original Casper cover and now I am experiencing symptoms consistent with fiberglass exposure (itchy skin, coughing fits, etc.) and the mattress continues to fall apart.

The product, in the report: The product is a bed in a box foam mattress with a removable cover. It is 80x60x 10 and a queen size. It is white on the top with gray sides and bottom. The tag says it consists of all new material of poly urethane foam 77% and VISCOELASTIC POLYURE THANE FOAM 23% net weight of filling material is 64 lbs and the cover consists of 100% polyester on the top and 98% polyester and 2% spandex on the sides.

In 2017 I purchased a mattress from the brand Casper. After moving a few times the cover of the mattress was dirty and I wanted to wash it. There is a tag on the mattress that states it is illegal to remove and I consulted that tag for washing instructions. It says that if you are going to remove the cover to dry clean it or wash in a cold water cycle. Upon removing the cover I found that there was a gauzy fabric layer surrounding the foam which was ripped in many places. Under this fabric was strands and strands of a silvery substance. At the time I did not realize that this was a type of fiberglass. This substance would go on to destroy the physical health and mental wellbeing of me, my partner, and my dog. The mattress cover contains a zipper in addition to the tags that dictate it is safe to remove. The zipper gives the impression that the cover can be removed. No where in the mattress, website, or packaging does it say that this mattress contains fiberglass. At the time of the incident, we noticed the fibers floating in air and settling on our surfaces. We began to feel irritated in our eyes and skin. I ended up washing the the cover, we vacuumed and cleaned and believed we were done with it. I speculated that the fibers may have been fiberglass just by the way they felt on our skin and the way they were behaving in the air. The day after this incident my partner was in a car accident and the whole fiberglass in our mattress thing just ended up taking a back burner. In the next few months I began to develop debilitating and disfiguring skin rashes and lesions. Painful red itchy lumps and scab like lesions developed on my chin neck arms back and top of thighs (anywhere there was a lot of movement or rubbing of my clothes on my skin. Our dog became ill with bowel obstructions and very itchy red inflamed skin. I also began to notice that all of my belongings, clothes, shoes, pillows, blankets, couches, surfaces, EVERYTHING was inundated with these fibers. My partner and I were sitting on our bed speculating about what was going on with my skin and our dog and I mentioned that I kept finding all this lint in our laundry. I saw his face change when he made the connection between my symptoms, the fibers in our space, and the fiberglass mattress. Since discovering that the fiberglass has contaminated our home we have been living in a nightmare. My skin symptoms persist as well as eye irritation and respiratory symptoms. We have to give our dog an anti itch medication called [REDACTED] that costs us $80 a month. The expense of this experience has been debilitating. We really should throw out all of our clothes, bedding, rugs, furniture, and any soft or upholstered items and we have removed a lot but I cannot afford to replace all these items. We had to cover our furniture and belongings in plastic just to remove the mattress from our home. We have saved the mattress in a mattress bag. We have bought air purifiers (in 4 months we are STILL having to wash the filter every few days because it is absolutely covered in these fibers) it has made it into almost every single item that we own and it is a safety hazard. I am angry that this is allowed to be used in mattresses as a fire retardant. I think it was leeching into the cover of our mattress before I even removed it because the protective layer around the foam was ripped before I even took the cover off. I have photo and video evidence of everything. This is a serious health hazard and safety risk. The fact that we had no disclosure that this product was even in our mattress is criminal in my opinion. It is known that fiberglass is a health hazard and causes irritation but yet it is legal to put it in an item where one spends a significant amount of time. Your bed is a place where you are supposed to feel safe and secure but instead it has made me sick and exposed me to a toxic material. I feel violated and vulnerable. I have reached out the Casper to inform them of our experience and file a claim for financial reimbursement. This is in process. Thank you for reading.

The product, in the report: Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress

Moved apartments today and noticed pieces or fiber coming from my Casper mattress. The label does not state fiberglass but the model I have DOES contain fiberglass after further research. Im afraid I compromised my pets and my entire new home. What am I able to do?

The product, in the report: Casper Mattress Foundation This product was a queen size mattress foundation (about 60 inches by 80 inches). This is the product: https://casper.com/mattress-foundation/ Model The Foundation

I want to report dangerous chemical fumes from Casper Foundation product (https://casper.com/mattress-foundation/). This product was purchased as a foundation for my Casper mattress to be used by myself and my significant other who lives with me. Upon receiving the product, it had a strong chemical odor straight out of the box. The foundation was put together and placed in a separate room where it was aired out for hours each day over the course of about 2 weeks. During this time I would get a headache whenever I was in the room with the product and my significant other who had more exposure to the product ending up with a breathing problem (shortness of breath and chest pains). We ended up throwing out the item due to the fumes and the breathing problem dissipated a few days later.
