Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 19, 2026, sent to the company Sep 24, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 8, 2026
The product, in the report: Zinus 12-Inch Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress, Queen Size. White cover with internal flame-retardant sock. Note: Original 2017 Amazon purchase link now redirects to Zinus’s updated product listing.
The internal fire-retardant sock inside our Zinus Green Tea 12-inch Queen Mattress suffered a structural failure, shedding microscopic glass fibers (fiberglass) through the cover onto the floor and stored belongings. This caused environmental contamination under the bed frame as well as skin dermatitis and upper respiratory irritation for two adults and a pet. Upon contacting customer support with photos and purchase proof, the manufacturer insisted on requiring physical manipulation and unzipping of the compromised cover to photograph internal law tags, an action that would cause further hazardous airborne fiber glass release. The retailer (Amazon) similarly declined assistance.

Emergency room Made May 5, 2026, sent to the company May 7, 2026, published by CPSC May 21, 2026
The product, in the report: Zinus 10 inch Cloud memory foam mattress king size size:80 in. X 76 in. x10in.
In January 2021 I purchased a Zinus Cloud 10-inch Memory Foam Mattress, King size, from Amazon. The mattress was used nightly by adults in a home bedroom for normal sleeping.
In December 2025, the zippered outer cover failed and released fiberglass particles from the internal fire barrier into the home. For approximately 5 months, fiberglass contaminated the bedroom, bedding, clothing, and HVAC system.
This caused recurring physical symptoms including full-body hives, lip and facial swelling, asthma exacerbation, coughing, and sleep disruption. An emergency room visit was required in December 2025 for allergic reaction. Symptoms continued until the mattress was identified as the source and removed from the home on April 26, 2026.
After removal of the mattress and disposal of contaminated bedding and clothing, symptoms resolved within 1 week. A brief re-exposure occurred when handling contaminated laundry in early May 2026, causing hives to return, which confirmed the mattress as the source.
The product was used as intended for sleeping. The zipper on the outer cover is marked as nonremovable, but is defective and leaks fiberglass even without messing with the cover. There are no warnings on the exterior about fiberglass exposure risk with normal use.
Injuries included: dermatologic reaction (hives), angioedema (lip swelling), and respiratory distress. No children were directly exposed in bed, but fiberglass spread through household laundry.
Zinus was notified and offered $1,014 with an NDA to settle. This does not cover property damage or pain/suffering from 5 months of exposure.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Apr 20, 2026, sent to the company Apr 23, 2026, published by CPSC May 7, 2026
The product, in the report: 12-inch mattress-in-a-box style memory foam mattress with a quilted outer cover equipped with a zipper. Contains multiple foam layers including memory foam infused with green tea and natural charcoal. The mattress includes an interior fire-retardant barrier sleeve containing fiberglass. The outer cover has a zipper closure. Product was sold as a compressed, rolled mattress shipped in a box.
I purchased a Zinus AZ-CMM-1200F Cloud Memory Foam 12-Inch Mattress on June 24, 2022 through Amazon. My minor son has experienced severe and ongoing skin reactions since sleeping on this mattress, which I believe are directly caused by fiberglass exposure from the products fire-retardant barrier. The outer cover was never removed or unzipped at any time. After researching the issue, I discovered that Zinus mattresses manufactured during this period were the subject of multiple class action lawsuits due to fiberglass fibers escaping through the mattress cover and causing injury. My sons symptoms are consistent with fiberglass exposure, including significant skin irritation and rashes. I have photographic documentation of his reactions as well as proof of purchase. I am requesting this be formally documented and investigated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission to protect other families from the same harm.

The product, in the report: Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch Green Tea Mattress, Full, purchased December 2017
I bought a Zinus Green Tea Mattress. A few years ago I pulled the cover off to wash it and noticed a bunch of fibers come off, but I thought they were polyester. I now have a daughter in the room that happened in and she has unexplained and difficult to treat eczema. I just learned about the Zinus fiberglass issues and I am now finding fiberglass on lots of her clothing and bedding.

The product, in the report: Zinus 12 inch green tea queen sized mattress purchased in April of 2022
I purchased a Zinus Green Tea mattress from Amazon which I was not aware contained fiberglass until I came across a class action lawsuit. Upon checking my mattress I discovered that the protective cover was faulty and had ripped along the seams about halfway around which Zinus shared could mean that fiberglass would be able to leak. I reached out to customer service and was told that although because the protective cover was ripped it could leak fiberglass, I was required to take off the cover I purchased upon discovering the hazard and take a picture of the mattress being disposed of (exposing myself to the risk of fiberglass) to even begin the process of a requesting a refund. I had already previously sent pictures of the mattress, the default, the tags, and my proof of purchase receipt and discussed the concern of fiberglass exposure which they did not seem to be concerned about.

The product, in the report: Zinus green tea 12 inch memory foam mattress
I was using a zinus green tea memory foam mattress for about 4 years. I never removed the cover. I was having dermatitis issues, chronic fatigue, brain fog and decreased appetite. I went to numerous doctors and nobody could figure out the problem. It wasnt until last week that I found a class action lawsuit against zinus for my specific mattress. Apparently the glass leaked out and is all over my home. It has escaped into the HVAC system and now everytime the heat goes on I am breathing fiberglass.

No incident, no one hurt Made Oct 18, 2024, sent to the company Oct 23, 2024, published by CPSC Nov 14, 2024
The product, in the report: zinus mattress
I am writing to file a formal complaint against Zinus Inc. regarding a defective and hazardous product, as well as deceptive warranty practices. In 01/2020, I purchased a 12 inch greentea king size mattress from Zinus. After purchase, I discovered that the mattress was releasing fiberglass particles, which contaminated my home and caused physical irritation to myself and my family members. This poses a serious health risk and renders the mattress unsuitable for its intended use. I attempted to resolve this issue directly with Zinus through their warranty claim process. However, Zinus denied my claim, stating that the removal of the mattress cover voided the warranty. They also stated that removing the law tag would void the warranty, which is an illegal practice under FTC regulations (Textile Fiber Products Identification Act, Wool Products Labeling Act, Textile Fiber Identification Act). I informed Zinus that their statement about the law tag was unlawful and urged them to reconsider their denial of my claim. I also emphasized the seriousness of the product defect and the health hazard it poses. Despite multiple attempts to communicate with the company and allow them to rectify the situation, Zinus has been unresponsive and has failed to address the core issue of the defective and dangerous product. Zinus’s actions, or lack thereof, demonstrate a disregard for consumer safety and a failure to stand behind their product. The fiberglass release from the mattress is a clear manufacturing defect that makes the product unfit for use and poses a significant health risk. Furthermore, their attempt to void the warranty based on the removal of the law tag is a deceptive practice prohibited by the FTC.

I bought a mattress which was produced by Zinus Inc from Walmart, the Glendora center store in 2018. Mattress model number is: SPA-STR-800W. My husband, my son and I have been using this mattress since 2018. These days, we found a lot of glass fiber coming out from the mattress, now nearly all throughout the whole house. From the latest blood test, My 5-year old son [REDACTED] who has autism is allergic to a lot of common foods. Again, my big son has been sneezing for several months. I also feel uncomfortable breathing this year. My husband feel pain when touching the glass fiber. We suspect that fiberglass has entered into our body and may cause allergy and other diseases.

The product, in the report: ZINUS 10 Inch Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress, Fiberglass Free, Patented Custom Contour Support, Sturdy Base Foam, CertiPUR-US Certified, Bed-in-a-box, King, White
Zinus mattress was purchased from Amazon in 2019. In 2023, it was discovered that the mattress was leaking fiberglass (ie glass fibers) particles/dust through the mattress cover that had never been removed. It is unclear how long a period of time the fiberglass had been leaking through the mattress cover. Two humans and two dogs have skin, respiratory, and potentially other issues that may be contributed to the long-term fiberglass exposure. At the time of purchase, there was no information on the use of fiberglass/glass fibers in the fire sock of the mattress listed on the Zinus page on Amazon or in the product manual. Since the fiberglass had been leaking from the mattress for an extended period of time, most fabric items including clothing and carpet are contaminated and must be disposed of. All items in the house have to be cleaned and the house emptied to be cleaned by a professional remediation company, following a similar process as mold or asbestos.

Hurt, care not known Made Oct 26, 2023, sent to the company Oct 31, 2023, published by CPSC Nov 15, 2023
The product, in the report: Zinus Memory Foam 12 inch green tea mattress, Queen 80”L x 60”W x 12”Th
In December of 2017 I purchased a Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea 12 inch Mattress from Amazon. This mattress has a 10 year warranty, creating the expectation from me that the materials and supplies it was manufactured with would be safe and functional for that warranty period. I was fully aware that the mattress had a fire retardant fire sock inside that contained fiberglass and that the mattress cover should not be removed. At no point since I have purchased this mattress have I ever attempted to unzip, remove, or otherwise alter or open up the mattress cover. The mattress has been well cared for and has seen standard usage, for sleep at night but is otherwise untouched. The exterior cover at a glance does not visually show any signs of extreme wear, tears, openings, or any other type of large damage that could allow the fiberglass from the fire sock to escape. However, a few days ago I discovered small fiberglass particles on my bedframe, under my bed, on my sheets, pillows comforter, and nearby rug. Upon further inspection it appears that smaller fiberglass particles are breaking down and somehow escaping from the mattress cover. The mattress cover itself is covered in them. This will likely be hours of cleaning, and I’ve now been exposed to fiberglass without my knowledge. Over the past year I’ve been experiencing unexplained and novel skin and scalp sensitivity. I’ve tried different laundry soaps, shampoos, body washes, lotions, etc. to no avail. I now believe it is quite possible this sensitivity could be attributed to unintended and unknown fiberglass exposure over a long period of time as it slowly and unnoticeably escaped from the mattress cover, despite following ALL manufacturer recommendations and warnings. (Again, I have never removed or attempted to remove the mattress cover.) It should also be noted that I believe it is irresponsible and potentially dangerous that Zinus uses a zipper on their mattress cover. I recognize there are warning tags in place and measures to discourage opening the zipper, but, its a zipper. Consumers recognize zippers as a way to open things. Regardless, I have never opened the mattress cover and was still exposed to the fiberglass inside.

The product, in the report: [REDACTED] See previous notes where i share about it I got the zinus 8” green tea but it’s all of them just go on [REDACTED] lawsuits etc the video here they black artwork i had under my bed, it’s matte black, it looks like glitter now because shards are all over my room for who knows how long and then even smaller particles in the air from vacuuming because of the flimsy bottom cover i had to remove from my home immediately but the health damage is done, i had a cat scan and now waiting for an endoscopy because something has caused stomach irritation just a month ago when it got really bad here itchy painful eyes stuffy nose etc
I bought the Zinus green tea mattress May 21 2020. It’s promoted on Amazon as a best seller, and no where in the listing did it say fiberglass, it came with a flimsy cover with a zipper, just inviting users to open them up. I did not open it up, but 2 years in, due to the bottom fabric being the same stuff you find airplane materials made out of, the fire sock made of fiberglass released hundreds of thousands of particles into my home. There is a class action lawsuit, Zinus won’t honor my warranty, Amazon won’t rerfund me, I have an ENDOSCOPY because of stomach iriitstion from this. They cut costs by using the legally allowed fife sock, but they DO NOT encapsulate it properly, they have done no recalls, they are fully aware of the issues, but they just prefer to make money by selling high volume cheap. [REDACTED] zinus ginerglass, it’s been a nightmare for me. Had to throw away clothing, rugs, blankets that were sentimental from my grandmother, i’ve had breathing issues the last year, gastro issues, eye issues, i even started sleeping pills and now i know it’s because i would get so stuffy from the glass fibers in my air, even worse any time i vaccumed the tint shards would basically get even smaller and become aerosol, now invisible in my air as well as visible when i search, but when i looked under my bed last week i was horrified and have been in remediation mode with unknown health consequences. They save money by using the fiberglass BUT WHY ARE THERE NO RULES FOR ENCAPSULATING? A woven fabric WILL weaken over time if as you use the bed and move its constantly creating shards that then escape either when unzipped or even if not they just bleed through. I’m telling you it looked like i had glitter under my bed. It’s the ZINUS GREEN TEA MATTRESS a best seller on Amazon but look at the 1 star reviews, they wouldn’t allow mine which had video [REDACTED] there is a class action, why are you guys not requiring a protective cover fully encapsulated with a polymer? These people have eco friendly and all this green washing on the product and it never said fiberglass on the sales pages at all, no warning, had a zipper, etc

The product, in the report: Zenus memory gel foam mattress , but many mattresses have this same fiberglass in them.
From a Zenus memory gel foam mattress we bought at Walmart. Not sure of when it was made or the serial numbers. It is not the point of this specific mattress it is the fact that our FDA allows our products to be made this way and most consumers have no clue! Fiberglass shards were released from this mattress. There was a class action lawsuit and of course no money was actually awarded to the consumer. We had glass everywhere! In our house, food, air handler, clothes, linens, furniture, refrigerators, and on ourselves! Needless to say EVERYTHING had to be thrown out. Air handler had to be replaced and ALL our clothes, bedding, other mattresses, furniture…etc.! But that was not the worst part! We ingested these shards of glass. We were so sick. Our bodies had became so inflamed. Headaches, blurry vision, our limbs just stopped working because of the inflammation, and our bodies immune system finally started to fail because of the exposure. It has been 2 years, about give or take, and we are still healing physically. We have no idea of the long term health effects this will cause and this kind of thing should never had happened. Now I bought the zenus gel foam mattress, but there are MANY different types that have this fiberglass sock or removable cover on them or a non removable topper if fiberglass! What the…? No fiberglass any kind should be on people’s bedding, furniture, or anything. Please stop this practice. It is horrible and consumers have no idea that they are sleeping in a sprayed toxic fiberglass sock.

The product, in the report: Euro slats mattress foundation. 14” metal platform (steel & wood) bed frame with underbed storage.
I bought a Zinus smartbase euro slats mattress foundation (14” metal platform bed frame) from Amazon for my daughter last October. The bed frame broke and collapsed in the middle of the night with her asleep on it. It was only being used as a mattress for sleep. Fortunately, there were no injuries. I called Amazon and had to argue with them to replace it. I never thought to report it and am now aware of the recall from a 2/23/23 email from Amazon. I sent away for the safety brackets on 2/23/23-the same day Amazon sent me an email about the recall. I still have not received them and called Amazon. They gave me a number for Zinus where nobody answers. I finally had a chat with Zinus and the safety brackets were “lost”. I am upset that it appears I have no recourse. Can you please force Zinus to ship the safety brackets ASAP? P.S. I put the mattress frame back together on my daughter’s patio for the photo to show that the frame was bent after the collapse.

I purchase a Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch Green Tea Mattress, King Size. Mattress started leaking Fiber Glass. i have experience and suffer ongoing health issues such as rashes on my face, hands, breathing problems, asthmatic respiratory up-tract issues and Gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea. The Fiber glass went everywhere inside my house and has destroyed my entire furniture, clothes, dryer and washer machine, window curtains. Everything that you will see in a regular home has been destroyed due too the leak of a Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch Green Tea Mattress, King Size bed. The fiberglass is still in my house, which at this point it has damaged the environmental breathing air of my room and house and i do not know how to get rid of this fiberglass due to the fact it is in the air. This is What i found online in relation to Fiberglass being airborne. “Fiberglass can enter the environment from the manufacture, use, and disposal of fiberglass-containing materials. Damaged or disturbed materials, such as fiberglass insulation, may release fibers into the air. Airborne fiberglass may eventually settle with other airborne particles as a part of dust”

We got a new mattress and were going to give away our old mattress. We removed the cover to wash it and then replaced it. We helped a friend load it into his vehicle, and later he called because his clothes were covered in fiberglass shards. The cover had a zipper, and there was no indication that we were not supposed to remove the cover. We then examined the other mattresses in our home and realized that both of our children’s mattresses had been shedding glass fibers into our home. Both of our children have respiratory symptoms, and the clean up is a huge, expensive, stressful project.

I bought a zinus mattress March 2020 and started developing severe gastrointestinal issues to the point I need to go to the hospital. I didn’t have issues that bad before. Didn’t have acid reflux issues until I bought the mattress. I had to move home during the pandemic so I needed a mattress. But after a while I started having less and less of an appetite and everything just burned. I went to the hospital twice for uncontrollable vomiting and releasing me with acid reducing medication but yet has it helped. I moved to a boyfriends and it started to help but we then moved to a different place together so we needed my mattress and that started the problems all over again. I have an appointment to see a specialist GI to see my stomach. My skin is always itchy and I have attribute it to sleeping on this mattress. I only unzipped the cover once and only a little bit when I first got it out of curiosity but now seeing the claims, it makes more sense now.

Purchased mattress from Zinus. After replacing, so literally trying to fix the issue (that I was only vaguely aware of at the time) I now have fiberglass all over all of my normal clothing and my bed. Though on the bright side, it’s a new safer bed, just sprinkles of fiberglass from the old one. Specifically I am reporting a Zinus Ultima 6” Full mattress I purchased from Amazon on June 26th 2020
So far no injuries I can attribute for sure, though I am seeking legal counsel and this may change.
I still own and plan on storing the Zinus mattress.

We purchased a Zinus Cooling Hybrid Gel Foam Mattress through Zinus.com in Dec. 2018. While the cover is removable (although they now advise against removing it), we never removed the cover; however, beginning in 2020, I began to find scratches and red marks across my legs and occasionally on my arms. These are consistent with the images of other Zinus and memory foam mattress purchasers who have had issues with the glass fibers they use in these types of mattresses. I would also from time to time feel a sharp scratch on my legs while moving them around and across the mattress.

Fabric covering was removed and washed from a child’s foam mattress, which i believe released fiberglass shards of fire protectant all around his room. My child has since broken out in rashes, lacerations and hives/itching on all uncovered skin (arms and legs). He is unable to sleep in his bed, or even go into his room. The itching and allergen is incredible. He has slept on the couch in the living room, and condition improved. We throroughly cleaned his room and he returned for 1 night - to wake up to further hives and irritation this morning. Not sure what else to do except remove everything from his room and further clean.

The product, in the report: Zinus memory foam 10 in. Green tea mattress Full sized. plain white mattress. Amazon ASIN: B00Q7EVAXO
I’m not sure when it exactly happened, but a few days I started to get really itchy. It being allergy season I thougt it was my allergies acting up. They had been getting worse recently. That is until my dogs came into my room and they both started sneezing uncontrollably. They would leave the room and it would stop, but as soon as they walked in they would start sneezing. I started to vacuum my room thinking it was just a lot of dust in the air, but I noticed a lot of glittery stuff in the carpet. I knew exactly what it was right when I saw it. It was fiberglass. So I used a flashlight to see it better. My room was covered in it. All my cloths, the carpet, my bed especially. I knew that my mattress had a fiberglass layer in it so I took my bedsheets off to look if there was a whole or something in the protective cover of the mattress. I didn’t find any damage to the cover, but under the bedsheet was covered in fiberglass.Enough to see without the flashlight. Ive only had the mattress for a year, and have used it normally just sleep. Somehow the fiberglass had work it’s way through the cover that’s supposed to contain it. I searched online and found many other people with the same story. Most all of them finding fiberglass coming from their mattress without any damage to it. There are a lot of people that were unaware that their mattress contain fiberglass and removed the cover to wash it. Exposing them to fiberglass. The fiberglass has gotten everywhere and I have to clear my room and throw away everything made of fabric. That means all my cloths, blankets, pillow, carpet, ect. The brand that made my mattress is Zinus, but most mattresses, especially memory foam, use fiber glass. I can’t believe we use this hazardous stuff in something we use for a third of our lives. I’m lucky in the sense that I caught it before it could make me too sick, but a lot of people aren’t as lucky. From what I can tell most labeling for these mattresses do not tell you it contains fiberglass. I know my doesn’t. It just say not to remove the cover. It does not specify why or what are the dangers of doing so.

The product, in the report: Zinus 12” Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress (Queen) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q7EPSHI/ https://www.zinus.com/collections/mattresses/products/pressure-relief-green-tea-mattress?variant=257829470216
Product: Zinus 12” Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Memory-Green-Mattress-Queen/dp/B00Q7EPSHI/ Issue: This mattress has a major design flaw: it sheds fiberglass through the mattress cover, which comes into contact with consumers and causes health issues! I really believe this product should be banned from sale until it’s redesigned. Could be affecting thousands of consumers without their knowledge.
I ordered the Zinus mattress off Amazon after spending a lot of time researching mattresses. It had a lot of positive reviews and was very affordable so I wanted to give it a shot. However, before it arrived I stumbled across a number of concerning reviews from people who ran into severe issues with the fiberglass contained in the mattress. An online search for “Zinus fiberglass” or a search in the Amazon reviews for “fiberglass” returns a significant number of complaints, some which are very startling.
It turns out that in order to give the all-foam mattress some fire resistance, Zinus wraps the foam layers in a fiberglass sock. Zinus acknowledges that they use fiberglass and say that it’s an approved material. The issue is that the fiberglass sock easily sheds the glass fibers, and the thin polyester mattress cover does not prevent it from seeping through and coming into contact with consumers and their homes! There are videos on Youtube of people showing just how easily the fibers can flake off the fire sock.
Zinus states that the cover should not be removed, and sure enough a lot of the horror stories online come from people who didn’t notice that warning or thought it wouldn’t be an issue. When they take the outer covering off, the fiberglass sock is exposed - even the slightest friction can disturb the fiberglass and make it airborne. People reported that fiberglass infested their clothing and bedrooms, causing them to have to spend thousands of dollars after throwing out clothing and paying for remediation. To be fair, the mattress cover has a zipper, almost like it was intended to be washable - most consumers wouldn’t know not to remove it unless they read a tiny warning on the tag.
I assumed that I wouldn’t have any issues as long as I never removed the outer covering, so I never did. The mattress arrived without any damage and I put cotton sheets on it before using it. But I noticed I was waking up with small skin rashes after I had slept on the mattress for just a couple nights. On top of that, my eyes and throat began to feel slightly irritated like I was allergic to something (and I don’t suffer from allergies). After a couple more nights, I started noticing that I would regularly feel small itches just laying in bed, like I was being poked by very small needles. This made me start wondering if the fiberglass could be leaking even though I didn’t remove the cover.
Most alarmingly, around this time I started having a sensation like my throat was being constricted or obstructed. It was scary because I didn’t know if it would keep getting worse and eventually restrict my breathing. I went to a doctor and mentioned that I wondered if it could be a reaction to the new mattress - he had no way of being able to tell if the mattress was the cause. He told me to come back if the tightness continued over the next couple days.
I ended up shining a flashlight over my bed sheets since I had started to suspect that my mattress could be causing all the issues. Sure enough, I could easily see hundreds of miniscule glass fibers intertwined with my sheets! They could only be seen when light hit them at the right angle, and they were perfectly straight and clear. Somehow they had gotten all over my sheets and comforter, even the parts that never came in direct contact with the mattress. I also found dozens of fibers inside my pajamas that I had worn in bed! I realized at that point that all the itches and skin irritation had probably been caused by the leaking fiberglass.
I contacted both Zinus customer service and Amazon directly. Zinus only said that the fiberglass shouldn’t leak and I probably had a defective one, and I should ask Amazon for a replacement. I strongly believe it wasn’t an isolated defective mattress - this is a design flaw by Zinus. There’s no way that a thin fabric cover should be the only barrier between a person and a layer of fiberglass, especially when they’re moving around on the mattress and causing friction that could disturb that layer! Luckily Amazon took the mattress back because I would not have accepted a replacement. Based on other Zinus product reviews, the fiberglass issues are widespread across almost all of their mattresses. There are so many other reviews warning people not to buy the mattresses due to the fiberglass issues, but most consumers won’t see these reviews because they’re getting buried under thousands of positive reviews.
I got rid of the mattress thanks to the Amazon return, bought a new one from a different brand made in the USA, and washed my sheets multiple times. All of my symptoms (skin/eye irritation & throat constriction) disappeared within a couple days of me getting rid of the mattress! If I had all that fiberglass leaking and causing issues after only having the mattress for about a week, I can’t imagine how bad the issue could get after sleeping on the mattress regularly for a year or more. It seems like Zinus is one of a few mattress companies that uses fiberglass socks as a cost-saving way to meet fire-resistance regulations, but they clearly aren’t testing these designs to make sure the fiberglass will be contained inside the mattress.
It’s terrible to think that kids and adults could be sleeping on these mattresses and suffering from chronic health issues, not having any clue that the issues are being caused by their mattress. People wouldn’t be able to see the fiberglass with the naked eye and wouldn’t find out about the issue unless they did their own research. I really hope it can be recalled and redesigned as soon as possible.

The product, in the report: Zinus Memory Foam 10 Inch Green Tea Mattress, King Size
On September 28, 2016, my fiancé and I purchased the Zinus Memory Foam 10 Inch Green Tea Mattress (via Amazon). A few nights ago, while changing our sheets and mattress protector, we noticed the large (easily accessible) zipper on the bottom of the mattress. Doubtful that the zipper was merely for aesthetic purposes, we decided to unzip and remove this cover to more easily reach the area we wanted to spot clean. The tag’s Care Instructions refer to both an “outer cover” and a “cover,” and also states, “do not put foam in washer or dryer” (not sure how one fits an entire mattress inside a washer or dryer). In light of the above ambiguities, I interpreted “do not remove cover” to mean “do not remove the fire retardant mesh cover” (as that would presumably make the mattress flammable). Therefore, my fiance and I proceeded to unzip and remove the knitted cover. ]
Little did we know that doing so would reveal a defective fiberglass mesh covering. We immediately put the cover back on. Nevertheless, fiberglass particles had already spread throughout our room; floors, walls, furniture, clothing and our skin were all covered in it. Despite showering and our best cleaning efforts, we’ve been extremely uncomfortable for days - in addition to the painful itching and asthma-related symptoms, my throat has become alarmingly irritated.
Moreover, upon removal of the outer cover, we noticed multiple areas where the mattress’ protective mesh (fiberglass) was breached/had worn off. We have no way of knowing precisely when or how this could have happened, or whether it was simply delivered in this condition. What I do know is that (1) I’ve been sleeping directly above these areas for the last 10-12 months, and (2) I’ve had to undergo multiple medical exams over the past 10-12 months for unexplained throat and neck swelling and irritation. I intend on scheduling an appointment with my ENT as soon as I can.
How and to what extent this defective fiberglass material has affected our health is not yet clear. The fiberglass particles are seemingly impossible to get rid of -- they continue to spread through our A/C and washer/dryer use.
I’ve been attempting to contact Zinus since September 6th, to no avail. I’ve called and emailed customer support (no response to my email or voicemail). I’ve also attempted to reach them through their online chat feature (no response).
