  1. First aid

Made Sep 17, 2026, sent to the company Sep 22, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 14, 2026

The product, in the report: purple innovation mattress has come apart causing one of us to fall out of the bed. Twin xl the fire retardant sleeve has deteriorated and the mattress edges have split apart. This is the issue with both of our mattress since it is a split king. These mattresses are not only a fall hazard but the fire retardant will do nothing since it deteriorated well before the warranty expiration dates

We are filing this complaint due to a severe, systemic manufacturing defect affecting both mattresses in our Split King setup, creating an ongoing physical safety hazard. The internal side-support foam perimeters on BOTH of our Split King mattresses completely detached and broke away from the main gel core. Because the edge support entirely collapsed, the sides of the bed give way without warning. This dangerous lack of structural integrity resulted in one of us physically falling completely out of the bed and onto the floor. To investigate why the beds were collapsing and causing us to fall, we unzipped the outer mattress cover. Upon opening it, we discovered that the internal white knit lining had completely shredded itself over time from the inside out. This tearing was caused entirely by the friction and grinding of the failed, detached internal foam pieces rubbing against the fabric under normal use.Purple Customer Care ([REDACTED]) denied our warranty claim on the basis that “Removal of the mattress cover can void the warranty.” This is a completely false characterization. The outer cover was simply unzipped to inspect a severe structural failure. We did not remove the cover to void the mattress, nor did we tear the internal fabric. The mattress literally fell apart from within, destroying its own internal lining. Using an unzipped zipper as a technicality to ignore a dangerous product defect that caused a physical fall is an act of bad faith. We request an immediate corporate escalation. Since I am in the middle of travel I only have a picture of my wife’s mattress however mine is just as bad.

The product, in the report: Purple hybrid premier 3 queen sized mattress

Purple hybrid premier matresss started leaking fiberglass through the cover after the grid separated from the foam corners.

It has a gap now that you can slide down into which lays you on the internal springs. Since this happened fiber glass has made its way through the mattress cover which never has been tampered with and has no tears. It’s on my bedding, clothes, skin, hair. My throat stays itchy.

Made Jul 18, 2025, sent to the company Jul 23, 2025, published by CPSC Aug 6, 2025

The product, in the report: Product Name: Purple Mattress (specific model “Purple Plus”). Brand: Purple Innovation, LLC (commonly known as “Purple”). Type: King-size hybrid mattress (gel grid + foam support layers). Dimensions: Standard queen size approximately 60 W 80 L [height unknown]. Color: White or off-white fabric cover with Purples signature stretchy, grid-patterned top layer. Weight: Heavy (typical for hybrid mattresses, likely 100+ lbs). Intended Use: Primary sleep surface for adults. Purchase Date: July 2023 (new from Purples website). Warranty: 10-year limited warranty (covers indentations >1 under load).

Product: Purple brand mattress (model purchased new in July 2023). Issue: The mattress repeatedly loses support, develops deep indentations, and causes chronic paindespite four replacements in two years.

    Details: Failure Pattern:

Each mattress sagged significantly within months (verified with photos/videos per Purples warranty requirements).

Four separate mattresses (original + three replacements) failed the same way.

Purples customer support acknowledged the indentations but only offered replacements, not refunds.

    Safety/Health Impact:

Injuries: Chronic back and neck pain requiring medical attention.

Cause: Mattress lost structural integrity, failing to provide support during sleep.

Near-Misses: Risk of falls due to uneven sleeping surface (deep sagging).

    Evidence of Systemic Defect:

[REDACTED] complaints show identical issues (mattresses failing within a year).

Purple presumed sagging was the issue before I reported it (indicating prior knowledge).

    How Product Was Used:

Normal use as a primary sleep surface (adults, standard weight range).

Followed all care instructions (proper foundation, no misuse).

    Why Reporting:

Purple continues selling mattresses with a known defect that causes injuries.

Warranty process fails to resolve the hazard (replacements have the same flaw).

  4. No one hurt

Made Oct 10, 2023, sent to the company Oct 11, 2023, published by CPSC Oct 25, 2023

The product, in the report: The New Purple Mattress - Twin XL / Purple.4

When I was retrieving something that fell under bed with a flashlight, I noticed shiny fabrics all over carpet shedding off of the mattress. When I tried to pick it up, I realized it was fiberglass. The bed is a Purple 4 Mattress manufactured and sold by Purple Innovation LLC. I purchased it on July 5th 2019 on manufacture’s website. My partner and I are the only persons who use this product and were not injured due to this defect. The fiberglass is isolated to the underside of the bed and I do not see any on the top part or the bedsheets. I inspected the mattress tag because when I purchased the mattress, I wasn’t aware of Purple using fiberglass in their mattress products. When I checked the mattress tag, the use of fiberglass is not listed at all. The only internal materials listed are GEL PAD, POLYURETHANE FOAM PAD, POLYESTER FIBER BATTING, and INNER SPRING UNIT. I am mostly upset as the fiberglass was not disclosed, the mattress has not been damaged, and is unable to be opened (no zipper), but still is shedding fiberglass causing a health hazard that needs to be remediated.

The product, in the report: The product is called the PURPLE BED mattress. I had a king size PURPLE BED I bought it at their website onpurple.com !

Hey ya’ll, I’m just wondering what I’m supposed to do here? So I’ll tell ya quick background. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve had asthma and constricted airways. I’m not classified as a severe asthmatic but I must have my inhailer on me at all times and I really can’t do much by the way of physical activity. It just seems to aggravate and constrict my breathing too much. Anyhows, I begged and begged and begged my boyfriend into buying me one of those new purple beds. I mean, that video is just a hoot! My boyfriend, god bless him, but he is such a researcher and such a skeptic. Well, in doing his manly research, he told me that like some Doctor said the purple beds can be bad for breathin. I told him he’s just bein paranoid and that I have to have the bed!! After much argument, which I obviously won, he got me the bed. Well, I was super excited, of course, and I found it so comfortable to sleep on for a few months maybe? I’ve never been much good at keepin track of time afterall. Anyhow, life goes on and my boyfriend points out that he’s been refillin my inhailers faster than usual, and when he went to refill my last one it was flagged by the pharmacy or somethin and I had to call my doctor. The office said they needed to see me (I usually would only go a few times a year) because of the rate of refills. Ya know, to me I really didn’t notice much change, I guess when you’ve had a condition for 30 years ya just kinda get used to it, ya know? But my boyfriend started to tell me he thinks what he read wasn’t just fake news and that the bed was making me have those breathin problems that he read about. I still said no no, how can a bed possibly make anyone sick? Or sicker than they already are? Anywho, so we go to the doctor and he examines me, would ya’ll actually believe this? He said it sounds like my lungs are actually gettin worse! He can hear the air flow is more restricted, hence why I’m wheezin and coughin and feelin the shortness of breath more and using up my medicines faster! OH if only you could see my boyfriend’s face in that moment, he wanted to kill me with the deathly I TOLD YOU SO look !!! So now I’m like, well gee wiz, In all my life I’ve always been about the same with my medicine use, I switch beds and now it gets worse. I mean I ain’t no brain scientist or rocket scientist like the purple beds claim they are, but I guess I have to admit when somethin seems like more than a coincidence? So here I am, my asthma is worse and my doctor is NOT happy with how rapidly it’s progressed. He says at this rate I’m start havin attacks on a regular basis and those would be really bad, I could end up going to the hospital and he said I could even die!! What the hell??? So I need to know what I am to do now! My boyfriend threw the bed in the garbage! He called up the company, told them what happened and ya’ll know what they said? They gave us some fake science crap right back! They tellin us how it’s a million percent safe, it’s food grade blah blah I’m like well my doctor says I could DIE. They just keep tellin me that I’m wrong. So okay, now what? Like I could die, how many other people could die now too? I just don’t want the children to be harmed. Can ya’ll do something? Should I sue them?
