The product, in the report: Purchased in 2019 queen sized casper hybrid mattress
I bought a casper mattress in 2019 and recently discovered it was leaking fiberglass, I never removed outer cover and kept a water proof topper on it. It was not until I changed my waterproof cover that I started getting hives, acne and other skin irritation. I acted quickly after two nights of these issues since I had heard of this issue and inspected for fiber glass, sure enough there was little sparkles everywhere. My dog also experienced skin and face irritation. Even after thorough cleaning and removing the mattress I am still finding fiber glass. The company is absolutely refusing to help me, will not remove the mattress and says my evidence is not enough.

The product, in the report: Casper Mattress Purchased in 2016. Full - 75”x 54” x 10” Reg. No. UT - 3196(GA) Made by Reg No 52381 Content - Polyurethane Foam & Latex Foam
In 2016, I purchased a Casper mattress which was used as our primary sleeping mattress until recently. After learning of the [REDACTED], which alleges that certain older Casper mattress models used undisclosed fiberglass as a fire barrier, I inspected my own mattress and discovered fiberglass leaking from the underside. Upon reviewing the mattress tags, I found no disclosure of fiberglass in any materials list and no consumer warning of any kind regarding its presence. I have photos of the mattress tags confirming the absence of any fiberglass disclosure, as well as video documentation of fiberglass leaking from beneath the mattress. I am also reporting a potential health concern: my partner was diagnosed with bronchitis earlier this year. Given that fiberglass was present in our sleeping environment for an unknown period of time without our knowledge, we are concerned that prolonged inhalation exposure may have been a contributing factor

No one hurt Made Mar 6, 2026, sent to the company Mar 9, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 23, 2026
The product, in the report: “The Casper” Cal King Mattress by Casper
I am reporting a fiberglass contamination incident involving a Casper mattress used in my home.
After normal consumer use of the mattress, fiberglass from the internal fire barrier escaped and spread throughout the surrounding environment. This resulted in fiberglass contamination of bedding, clothing, and other household items.
The fiberglass particles became airborne and dispersed across the bedroom area, creating a potential inhalation and skin-contact hazard. Fiberglass fibers are visible on fabrics and surfaces and require extensive cleaning and disposal of contaminated property.
I documented the contamination and provided Casper with photographs and an itemized list of damaged property. Casper initially indicated it would assist in resolving the issue, but communication stopped and the matter remains unresolved.
Because fiberglass contamination can create respiratory, skin, and environmental hazards inside a home, I am submitting this report to notify the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the safety risk associated with this product.
I can provide documentation, photographs, and records of communication with the manufacturer upon request.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Mar 5, 2026, sent to the company Mar 10, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 24, 2026
The product, in the report: “The Casper Mattress” King Size (approx. 76 X 80”) White CONTENT: Polyurethane Foam Latex Foam COVER: Top: 100% Polyester Side: 51% Polyester, 49% Polypropylene Bottom:50% Rayon, 45% Polyester, 5% Aramid
On 2/12/2025, I discovered that our Casper mattress (purchased May 2016) was leaking fiberglass. I first noticed the issue while changing the bedsheets. After lying on the bed briefly, I felt a rash beginning on my hand. I have experienced recurring rashes/hives for the past year that looked identical. When I raised my hand, I noticed shiny fibers on my sweater. Using a flashlight, I discovered my clothing was covered in fiberglass fibers. After turning off the lights and inspecting the bedroom, I found fiberglass contamination throughout the room, including bedding, clothing, carpet, curtains, and other surfaces. When I lifted the mattress, the bed slats were covered in fiberglass, and fibers were visibly protruding from the mattress cover.
Fiberglass particles have spread widely throughout the bedroom environment, creating an inhalation and skin-contact hazard.
I immediately closed off the room and contacted Casper to report the issue. Support connected us with what they described as the team who “deals with these issues”. We submitted photo evidence of the contamination and mattress tags. The mattress tags do not disclose that the product contains fiberglass and actually encourage consumers to remove and wash the mattress cover, which could expose consumers to fiberglass fibers.
We also reported health concerns. I have experienced rashes on my arms, chest, legs, and face (including around my eyes) for nearly a year. One of my cats has developed respiratory issues and frequently played under the bed where fiberglass contamination was present. My doctor had previously been unable to determine the cause of my rashes, but after learning about the fiberglass exposure stated it was very likely the cause.
Casper offered to arrange pickup of the contaminated mattress and frame but asked us to bag the mattress ourselves before removal. This raised serious safety concerns because we had already reported health impacts from fiberglass exposure. Handling the mattress ourselves could further expose us and spread contamination.
We asked Casper to confirm whether the removal company, Sharetown, was certified to handle hazardous materials such as fiberglass, but Casper was unable to confirm this. Because of these concerns, we contacted a local remediation company certified by the IICRC to safely contain and remove the mattress and clean the bedroom. We are also arranging HVAC cleaning due to possible contamination.
After providing Casper with the remediation quote, we have received no meaningful response despite multiple follow-ups and assurances the case had been escalated. It has now been 21 days since reporting the issue, our bedroom remains unusable, and estimated damages exceed $10,000.
We are concerned that Casper:
-Failed to disclose the presence of fiberglass in the mattress labeling.
-Encouraged consumers to remove the mattress cover, which could release fiberglass.
-Asked consumers to handle contaminated products themselves without safety guidance.
-Has not taken reasonable steps to assist with remediation after confirmed contamination.
-We are concerned this labeling and design could expose other consumers to fiberglass contamination if the cover is removed as instructed.

The product, in the report: Casper One queen size mattress-grey. 80 in x 60 in x 11in
This report is specifically for the Casper One mattress that I received middle of December 2025. Noticed a chemical smell coming from mattress-my whole bedroom smelled of this. Looked it up and saw this was “off gassing” and “normal”-should only last a few days to a few weeks. Now 1 month later, smell is still very strong and I have experienced headaches, nausea, and a funny taste in my mouth. I have had my bedroom window open to air out and been using an air purifier the entire time. Smell never went away and with my symptoms I do not believe this is safe for my health. In the process of getting mattress out of my house and returned.

No one hurt Made Dec 13, 2025, sent to the company Dec 17, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 6, 2026
The product, in the report: Casper mattress purchased in June 2017, queen size mattress, model number CAS10A-P-MFR-ONT. Dimensions are 80”length, 60” width, 10”height
This report involves a Casper mattress I purchased in 2017. On 12-6-25, I decided to wash my mattress cover-it was zippered and easy to get off. There was NO do not remove sign-in fact the label actually gave washing instructions. I removed it and noticed some things coming out of it but figured it was dust. I moved it downstairs and noticed more “stuff” coming out , was covered in it at this point. Did some research and realized it was fiberglass. Also there were many reports and even lawsuits against this company from people that did the same thing I did. At this point, fiberglass was all over my place.. Put it outside and saw evidence of fiberglass EVERYWHERE-floors, carpet, walls, clothing. I was very scared as I know this is a huge health hazard. I reported this to the company and they are giving me a new mattress. In the process of seeking legal advice because many of my things are damaged-had to get rid of over $10,000 worth of stuff and even replace my carpets(they do not come out).I called a HAZMAT company for proper cleaning and they quoted me $24,000 -I do not have that kind of money so took matters into my own hands and been cleaning all week. Injuries that have occurred-fiberglass embedded into my skin; so far no lung issues but am worried about long term damage for my son and I because of this exposure. Been going on all week.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Oct 24, 2025, sent to the company Nov 6, 2025, published by CPSC Nov 26, 2025
The product, in the report: King Mattress
I was cleaning the Casper King mattress (from 2018) for the first time. The care instructions tag said if need to clean the entire cover, remove cover. Dry clean or hand wash with mild detergent and cold water. Per the tag, my 3-year-old daughter unzipped the cover (see video and pic); and I removed the entire cover and brought them down to wash, along with the bedding and sheets.
As I vacuumed the mattress, I began to notice visible tears in the outer layer that appeared to be fiber glass (releasing shiny glimmering razor-thin hair-like strands, on my skin and clothes) throughout the room (bedding, sheets, rug, upholstered chair, clothes, furniture), 2nd floor (e.g., rugs, furniture) and 1st floor. There had been no warnings on any tags or materials about fiberglass or the hazards of removing the cover. My two young children (5yo, 3yo) and I also began to experience eye, skin and throat irritation and inflammation soon after cleaning and handling. To confirm the presence of fiberglass, I searched how to clean Casper mattresses specifically and learned the use of fiberglass in all pre-2025 manufactured mattresses. And they NOW released mattresses WITHOUT fiberglass.

The product, in the report: Queen hybrid mattress
I purchases a Casper DRESM MATTRESS IN EARLY July 2025. The smell from off gassing causes bad headaches. I tried every way possible to ventilate the room, fans, AC, open windows, standing the mattress on end, etc. I reported to the company on August 8, 2025 that there was so much off gassing that the room was unusable and they agreed to take it back.
I really wanted to make it work as it looks beautiful, is comfortable from a cushiony point of view and was a descent price so i kept it in a spare bedroom for another month with ventilation. Everytime i go into the room, the chemical smell is extreme. I have never had a problem with any product like that as I do not have chemical sensitivities. I am returning the mattress but think this should be reported. The mattress label states Date of Manufacture: 06/24/2025 Model #: 880-000074 Prototype ID: CS DREAM CARP V7

The product, in the report: Casper Dream hybrid mattress. Queen size. 80 in. x 60 in. x 12 in. 40 lbs.
Purchased a Casper DREAM hybrid mattress and the off-gassing is so toxic that it causes itchy eyes, headache, heart palpitations, and nausea to the point of almost vomiting. If you go into the room where the mattress is for more than a few minutes, the symptoms re-occur.
After looking online, it seems this is a known issue and apparently it can take WEEKS for the fumes to dissipate! Casper is setting up a return but they need to change the manufacturing of this mattress and warn people about the off-gassing. They do not mention it AT ALL on the website or in the paperwork that came with the mattress. I currently cant use my bedroom and it might be up to two weeks before this mattress is picked up!

The product, in the report: Product Name: Casper Essential Mattress King Size Brand: Casper Sleep Inc. Model: Essential (20182019 production) Size: King 80 x 76 x 8.5 inches Material Composition (per tag): Core: Polyurethane foam and viscoelastic polyurethane foam Cover: 98% polyester, 2% spandex (top), 100% polyester (bottom) Description: The Casper Essential is a memory foam mattress designed and marketed as an affordable, streamlined option in Caspers mattress lineup. The product is a low-profile (8.5) three-layer foam construction, with a zippered fabric cover that is not intended to be removed, per the manufacturer. It was sold primarily online and through Caspers retail partners between 2017 and 2020.
After moving my Casper Essential King mattress in 2025, I discovered glittery particles near the zipper area. As someone who has worked with fiberglass before, I recognized the texture and itching immediately. Since then, Ive experienced persistent skin irritation, and my pets have shown similar symptoms. Casper has refused to replace the mattress because the fiberglass isnt visibly clear in photos, despite their representative stating they believed my story. Ive since sealed off the mattress and no longer use it for safety reasons.

The product, in the report: The Casper original mattress sold in stores and online. It’s been rebranded as the Casper One and contains fiberglass.
My Casper brand mattress released fiberglass which spread to the mattress topper, mattress foundation, sheets, bedroom rug, and more. Woman, 35 had a severe allergic reaction to the fiberglass with welts and hives covering her arms, back, and legs. Two children (1 and 2 years old) and male 37 also in the home. Pictures and video of the fiberglass coming from the mattress were captured. Casper acknowledged this is a known issue, but have not issued a recall.

The product, in the report: Original Casper brand mattress at the time it was sold as “The Mattress”. This was the first model that they produced.
We purchased an original Casper brand mattress in 2016. In the last year we have suffered a variety of respiratory and skin symptoms while in our bedroom. These symptoms include itchy eyes, nose, sneezing, rashes on exposed skin. The symptoms go away when we spend the night out of our bedroom. Additionally, our cat, who likes to sleep under the Casper mattress, has had chronic eye issues for the last several years. I came across an article about fiberglass sheading from mattress and looked under our mattress. There was significant sheading of fiberglass fibers covering the bottom of the mattress and floor of the bedroom. My spouse and I, and our disabled daughter who shares our bedroom have all been affected. The mattress cover was never removed, and the mattress had never been moved from its location. Casper was dismissive, rude, and extremely difficult to work with.

Hurt, no treatment Made Dec 20, 2023, sent to the company Dec 26, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2024
The product, in the report: It is a Casper mattress, I believe it’s the original one, and was purchased in 2017; according to research, Casper admits that there is fiberglass in the “fire sock” which is beneath the mattress cover, which actually has a broken zipper and cannot be placed back onto the mattress, further exposing me and my dog, and housemates even. The mattress is a full size. There are no labels on the mattress to indicate there is fiberglass, and there are no warnings about removing the cover to wash.
I have been sleeping on this Casper mattress for years, but recently, within the past months at the very least, I’ve noticed these shiny threads all over the place, they’re hard to see unless you shine a light on them, but when you do shine your flashlight onto the sheets, pillows, and yes, even my clothes, you see that these threads are everywhere.
My mattress tags do not indicate any fiberglass is used, but it is clear from research and from first hand experience and being able to see it visibly, that this mattress does use fiberglass in it’s “fire sock” , but none of this is mentioned, and the website and labels even indicate that there is no issue with taking the mattress cover off to clean, which is what I did and I believe that this is the reason it’s now more visible than ever.
When I wake up in the mornings, I have a hard time breathing (asthma) and have to use my inhaler more than usual. I am just so shocked that this is legal in the first place, and that no warnings are clearly labeled anywhere on the mattress. My dog has also been exposed to this and it is my hope that she hasn’t suffered any lasting damage, and of course I hope the same for myself.
In hindsight though, since I don’t really know how long I’ve been exposed, a lot of sinus infections, and respiratory infections and issues I’ve experienced could have been caused by this exposure.
I reached out to the manufacturer Casper, and there is a 10 year warranty on the mattress, so I believe they’re going to eventually come and pick the mattress up, and even told me they have a “special team” of people who deal with this sort of thing.

The product, in the report: Casper Essential Full mattress. Dark grey foam mattress. 75x54x8.5 in
I have a Casper Essential Full Mattress that I purchased in fall of 2017. It had a fire resistant “fire sock” that covers the mattress. This fire sock contains fiberglass, which is supposed to be securely encased so that it does not escape. However, after sleeping on the mattress for 6 years, I discovered that it has begun leaking fiberglass fibers.
I had it kept in a waterproof anti-bedbug mattress protector for the last 3 years, which I removed on 10/2/2023 in order to wash it. Afterwards, I discovered fiberglass fibers all over my bedroom, and I realized that the fire sock has begun breaking down and that my mattress protector has previously been containing them. The surface of the mattress was covered in shiny strands poking out of it.
There are a few injuries I’ve sustained as a result of this. My skin is very irritated from where it’s been embedded with fiberglass, and even after cleaning I am constantly itchy. I breathed in fiberglass and have developed a sore throat, cough, and sneezing. My voice sounds rough, like I’ve been smoking (I have never smoked). I’ve also experienced eye irritation.
In addition to the injuries, I have had to upend my entire bedroom to clean out the hazardous fiberglass. I’ve also had to throw away all of my bedding and much of my clothing. I am still in the process of cleaning up, but I may need to throw away some upholstered furniture in the room. Of course I am also getting rid of the mattress.

Fiberglass Contamination in Casper Mattresses: A Call for Consumer Protection
Introduction: On Saturday, June 16th, 2023, an alarming incident occurred when an attempt to clean one of our Casper mattresses led to the discovery of fiberglass contamination in our home. The fiberglass emerged from the deteriorated fire sock situated below the mattress cover, unbeknownst to us, as no mention of such material was provided in the product description at the time of purchase. This report details the events that unfolded, the adverse effects we experienced, and the subsequent actions taken to address the contamination, with a specific focus on the concerning emergence of fiberglass from the deteriorated fire sock. Furthermore, it raises concerns about the safety implications and the need for proper consumer protection in the bedding industry.
Background: Our Casper mattress was purchased on November 7th, 2016, and had been used by both our family members and guests. Little did we know that the mattress contained fiberglass, which was only discovered during the attempted cleaning process.
Discovery of Fiberglass Contamination: Upon following the mattress tag’s instructions for hand washing the mattress cover, fiberglass particles began to emanate from the fire sock beneath it. These particles were found to be widespread in the air and had settled on various surfaces, resembling sparkling fibers.
Adverse Effects and Health Impact: The fiberglass contamination affected not only our household items but also had adverse effects on our beloved pets. One of our dogs experienced a severe skin reaction, leading to intense scratching and now has large scabs on both sides of his neck. Consequently, it became evident that urgent measures were required to mitigate the contamination’s impact on our living environment and health. Additionally, we have scheduled doctor’s visits for our family to see what potential risks we can possibly face down the road from inhaling these fibers in the air. Furthermore, this has affected our mental health as we are now hyper-vigilant of any kind of fiber lingering in the air or on any surface. This is an experience that will forever impact us.
Response from Casper: Despite promptly reporting the issue to Casper and their quality assurance team, we received no satisfactory response or appropriate action to address the contamination. The lack of accountability and responsibility necessitated us to take matters into our own hands and develop a cleanup plan.
Cleanup Measures Taken: To minimize further contamination, we employed plastic bags to store our clothes and remove all other items such as rugs, curtains, lamps, bedding, dog beds, porous furniture, and basically anything that can’t be cleaned. Additionally, we hired a professional carpet cleaning company to clean the affected carpets. However, it soon became evident that these measures were insufficient, and the contamination persisted. As a result, we had no choice but to replace the entire carpet, which was also impacting our family’s and pets’ well-being.
HVAC and Air Ducts Cleaning: Recognizing the extent of the contamination, we took the additional step of renting and purchasing air scrubbers to contain the spread of fiberglass particles in the air. Furthermore, we have scheduled an HVAC and air duct cleaning to ensure the elimination of any remaining contaminants.
Concerns Regarding Product Safety and Recalls: Despite, Casper’s knowledge of this problem with mattresses that have tags that offer instructions for removing and how to wash the mattress cover Casper has not issued a recall for their mattresses. Consumers with these tags will not know of the presence of fiberglass until they have removed the mattress cover and thus exposed this material. Although they claim that the Consumer Product Safety Commission deems the “continuous filament” fiberglass used in textiles and fire-resistant barriers as non-hazardous, we firmly believe that such material should not be placed directly below a mattress cover. This issue poses risks to consumers’ quality of life and potentially threatens their health and safety.
Conclusion: The incident involving fiberglass contamination in our Casper mattress raises significant concerns about consumer protection and the need for stringent safety measures in the bedding industry. We advocate for a thorough investigation into the presence of fiberglass in Casper mattresses and a proactive recall process to safeguard consumers from potential health risks with these tags that offer washing instructions for the mattress cover. It is our hope that this report will contribute to ensuring safer products and responsible practices within the mattress manufacturing industry.

The product, in the report: 2017 Casper “Original” King size mattress
On Thursday, 1/13, I washed the removable zippered cover of our 4-year old Casper mattress, which then resulted in fiberglass covering our sheets and four loads of laundry I subsequently did. We didn’t know we had an issue until the middle of the night when we woke up itching and discovered glittering shards of glass all over our sheets, which we had been sleeping in.
Those four loads of laundry included my 3-month old daughter’s cloth diapers, our clothes and towels. Our washer and dryer seem to be contaminated and continuing to deposit glass on other loads. We are unable to wash our clothes until we replace the washer and dryer, since it continues to deposit glass shards on our belongings. I have found fiberglass anywhere that our laundry touched, including our couch, coffee table, our bedroom rug, a quilt we lay our daughter down to play, and the route from the bedroom to the laundry, and all over the laundry room. We have thrown out anything unsalvageable, including our sheets and towels, and for the remaining items, we have been lint-rolling painstakingly. The glass on our belongings is one thing -- but it’s another thing to know that microscopic fiberglass is floating in the air going into our infant’s eyes and lungs. This is a safety issue.
On the Casper website, they “recommend” spot cleaning the mattress topper but there is NO WARNING to not wash it completely. In addition, it should not be removable by zipper if this is a KNOWN ISSUE.
I began contacting Casper on Friday, 1/14, but have had no meaningful response since then.
