The product, in the report: Light weight blanket to be used during our cooler winter months.
I purchased an, ‘Easy Care Soft Fleece blanket’, bar code numbers, ‘75716 58607’, made in China, from Macy’s. During the first use of the blanket, a heavy petroleum odor began to permeate the bedroom. Unfortunately, it took a couple days to identify that the odor was coming from the blanket. My search for the origin of the odor was accelerated when my wife awoke one morning feeling dizzy. Her condition improved during the day but I was still concerned for the problem in the first place wondering what could have possible caused the dizziness. I finally homed in on the odor, went to the bedroom and finally picked up a corner of the blanket and sniffed the very strong scent of petroleum. It actually reminded me of the aroma of kerosene. I took the blanket outside, went back to the bedroom, turning on a ceiling fan and within several minutes, the odor was gone. Going back to the blanket, now outside the house, the aroma was still profound. I checked the package the blanket was sold in and there is all sorts of identifying information, but no phone number to call Macy’s with concerns. I’m concerned Macy’s is selling a potentially dangerous product, free wheeling manufacturing processes in China being what they are. There is no reason to think the blanket in the package would generate this very strong aroma just waiting to be used. It had to originate with the manufacturer. I am going to call Macy’s tomorrow and voice my concerns to them also.
