The product, in the report: Arcturus Military Wool Blanket (Stone Grey color). Product details: Size: 64” x 88” Package Dimensions : 19.33 x 12.01 x 5.04 inches; 4.37 Pounds, Date First Available : May 22, 2018 Manufacturer : Arcturus ASIN : B07D7JC76Y. Here is the Amazon.com link for it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DBYF3949?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1&psc=1

What happened? I ordered the “Arcturus Military wool blanket” on Amazon.com based deceptive product description and fraudulant positive reviews. Upon opening the product packaging, I was immediately overwhelmed by an intense, noxious odor resembling diesel fuel and raw sewage. The “off-gassing” from the blanket was so aggressive that it permeated my home. Despite the company’s claims that this is “natural lanolin,” the scent is clearly industrial and chemical in nature. When I attempted to wash the item per the instructions to mitigate the smell, the blanket disintegrated, shedding massive amounts of synthetic-feeling fibers that clogged my plumbing and ruined other textiles. The toxic odor became worse. How did you have contact with it? I had direct skin contact while handling the blanket and respiratory contact through inhalation of the fumes in an enclosed room. I also had secondary contact when cleaning up the excessive fiber shedding after the blanket began to fall apart. It was all over my washer, floor and got everywhere in the room as the product was disintegrating. What were your injuries? The chemical exposure caused immediate physical distress: Respiratory: Severe irritation of the lungs and throat, leading to coughing and difficulty breathing. Eyes: Intense burning and watering of the eyes. Skin: A painful burning sensation on the skin in all areas that touched the fabric. Systemic: Acute headaches and nausea from the vapor. I am concerned that these fibers contain carcinogenic or toxic industrial binders/dyes or worse. I am currently monitoring my symptoms and may require professional medical treatment for these chemical-induced injuries. Why is this a safety concern for others? This product is marketed for camping and “military” use, often for use by children or in small tents where ventilation is poor. The deceptive labeling (“handmade” and “high quality”) masks a product that is potentially toxic and does not meet minimum product safety standards. Furthermore, the company’s practice of suppressing or “shaming” negative reviews through clearly fraudulant positive reviews on Amazon prevents other consumers from being warned about these significant health and safety risks. It says it is designed in Washington and made in India. It may also help to alert the Attorney General of Washington to this dangerous product and unethical company practices at Arcturus.
