No one hurt Made Sep 28, 2026, sent to the company Oct 8, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 23, 2026
The product, in the report: PF-2 Filters for Berkey. These are the white colored, Fluoride/Arsenic filters for the Berkey units. These screw onto the underside of the Black Berkey elements and Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition filter elements, inside the fresh water tank, and reduce fluoride and arsenic. The pair together will typically treat 1000 gallons of water. The Berkey PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements adsorb the following unwanted elements found in drinking water Fluoride Sodium Fluoride, Sodium Fluorosilicate, Fluorosilicic Acid aka Hydrofluorosilic Acid Arsenic V and pre-oxidized Arsenic III Other residual heavy metal ions
Hi Folks, I have a Berkey water filter unit in my kitchen to filter my household drinking water. I bought the 2 white Arsenic/Fluoride filters for the unit, because I have Arsenic that needs to be filtered out. You have to replace them about every 2 years. They’re always installed according to the included instructions. I’ve been through 2 sets now. And, they exude some sort of white flaky material into my water. I’m not sure if it’s safe. I have called the Berkey company twice. Once about 2 years ago, and again Sept. 28, 2026. They don’t seem to want to take this seriously.

First aid Made Feb 2, 2026, sent to the company Feb 18, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 4, 2026
The product, in the report: Big Berkey scratch and dent unit, stainless steel spigot, base and Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filter Elements
Jan 4, 2026, I ordered a Big Berkey scratch and dent unit. As it was stated that it didnt come with stand, etc. I also ordered a stand for it and a stainless-steel spigot. Jan 6, 2026, I ordered a pair of the water filters that I needed. Jan 26, 2026, I had received all components, read the package assembly directions, watched several [REDACTED] Berkey assembly videos and assembled the unit. Upon completing set up, filter priming, dye testing and unit flushing, I tasted the water. It was terrible as the water tasted of iron. I asked Berkey for advice and was told to dismantle the unit, re-prime the filters, dye testing and flushing. The water tasted somewhat better, but still had an overbearing metal taste. Also, I bought this unit because I have arthritis in my back and shoulders and I hoped that by getting a unit that sat on the kitchen counter vs the refrigerator, that it would be easier for me to keep filled. If you are elderly and have arthritis, it was not easy to fill when it sat on the countertop as the top of the unit was over my head causing to make me reach up to add water. When I did the corrections suggested by Berkey, I moved it down to a bar stool and took the stand out from under it. This was completed on the 28th and so on the Jan 29, 2026 I began to drink from the system. After filling my water bottle 3 times, I started having problems breathing, my chest was tight and my heart rate was up. The only thing different about that day was that I had begun drinking water from the Berkey unit. I conducted an internet search regarding Berkey and allergic reactions. It seems to be a widespread issue with the Berkey filters releasing nickel, a known allergen, into the water. I found multiple sources of people complaining of allergic reactions, skin rashes, breathing problems, etc. On Amazon, some of the Berkey health complaints go back to 2013. Comments on [REDACTED] go back several years as well. Also, there were complaints on personal health blogs of people also going back to 2013. Even the Berkey [REDACTED] home page is filled with people complaining of becoming ill after using the filter system. I contacted Berkey that same day (Jan 30, 2026) to report my medical event and ask for a shipping label and refund. Here is their reply: Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us and for taking the time to re clean and re prime the filters as recommended. Were very sorry to hear about the reaction you experienced, especially given your nickel allergy. Regarding your return request, the Scratch & Dent system is sold as is and is not eligible for return. For the Phoenix filters, spigot, and stand, they are considered used. Once water has passed through any parts, they fall under our 50% return policy. We also do not provide return labels, but you are welcome to send the filters back to us at your convenience, and we will process the applicable refund once they arrive. Here is our return policy: https://www.usaberkeyfilters.com/usa-berkey-filters-returns-policy/. If you would like to proceed with the return of the filters, spigot, and stand, please let us know, and we can email you the return instructions. Here is my reply to them refusing to acknowledge my medical event and their responsibility: so you cause a customer to have a medical event by not disclosing that you put known allergen in your product and you respond with “tough luck”? you won’t like my customer review. So, I am reporting my medical event related to Berkey adding nickel to the filters, causing my medical event but I am also pointing out that untold numbers of people have reported medical events, sometimes long running health issues. Thank you for your time and help in this matter. PS i was able to only enter info regarding the stainless steel tank, the filter, which contains the allergen nickel, is what caused the medical event. the URL for the tank is in the complaint, here’s the URL of the filters https://www.usaberkeyfilters.com/products/berkey-phoenix-gravity-new-millennium-edition-filter-elements/ also, i have all email correspondence regarding this issue.
