The product, in the report: Company Name: Uttermost Product: Corbata Mirror https://www.uttermost.com/Corbata-Mirror-09381/ From their website: This bow tie design features a solid wood frame showcasing a delicate profile, hand finished in a lightly antiqued gold leaf. Mirror is beveled and may be hung horizontal or vertical. Sold individually. Dimensions: 10 W X 60 H X 2 D (in) Weight: 14 Ship Via: Small Parcel UPC Number: 792977093818 The cadmium exposure is not listed on their website, but it is listed on other retailer websites. After reaching out to them, I also noticed a sticker on the back of the actual product.

Two of Uttermost’s Corbata mirrors were purchased for my home. Upon cleaning the mirrors for the first time, a lot of gold dust fell from the mirror to the floor and also rubbed off onto my cleaning cloth. As I looked on online, I noticed that the product can expose you to cadmium. Upon further research, cadmium can be found in yellow/orange/gold pigments - similar to the paint on this mirror. Cadmium is describes as very toxic to humans and can cause multiple health conditions including renal disease and even various cancers. Out of concern, I contacted Uttermost if their product truly exposes consumers to cadmium or if it is a safe product. They responded that the cadmium is in the metal and the the product meets all US standards. I am still concerned about this product because my instinct tells me that the cadmium may be contained in the paint...the paint that isn’t sealed and comes off when wiped with some parts of the paint chalky. I decided to reach out to your agency, in hopes that you can look into this product to see what the true risk of this product is, especially for children who are more vulnerable to the effects of cadmium. Thank you in advance.
