The product, in the report: Fire Pot also known as a napa candle

After noticing the gel from the fire pot was out he refilled it with the alcohol gel. Then a flame entered the bottle and caused it to explode and flew in every direction. The fire pot (also known as a Napa candle) was near a deck where it burned a hole threw a cushion of the patio furniture and umbrella, and his American flag. The finish on the deck was destroyed (the location near where the where the fire pot was set).

It got into one person’s eyes (but was not on fire) and the victim receive severed burns to the abdomen, thighs and right hand. He immediately fell to the ground and rolled to put the fire out but when that did not help he then jumped into his Coi pond and that extinguished the flames. He was then taken to the University of North Carolina were he was kept in the Burn Unit for two days. He was diagnosed with having Superficial second degree burns. He had various skin grafts and was treated for the burns.

The retailer was contacted on 5/24/2011 or 5/25/2011 to inform him of his injuries associated with the product. He discarded of the product and has not contacted the firm. The product is a fancy styled vase and the center is a stainless still little tub and that is what you pour the gel into. It is manufactured and sold by Napa Home and Garden Inc.

He indicated that it is a great product but the concerns with it are if you refill the gel while the fire pot is still hot it could pose as a potential fire hazard. So it’s safe to refill the gel when the fire pot in cool and not in use.
