  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 25, 2017, sent to the company May 5, 2017, published by CPSC May 26, 2017

The product, in the report: The fire pit was manufactured by Mark Concrete, Inc. in Moss Landing, CA. The fire pit consists of: “SS burner pan, SS 24” Penta burner, flex lines, valve, and lava base rock; BTU 150k.

While using an outdoor fire pit, one or more lava rocks in the fire pit exploded sending burning hot shards and rock fragments in multiple directions. Fortunately, no-one was hit by the fragments, and therefore no-one was hurt; however, this presented a very dangerous situation.

The fire pit was purchased from Mark Concrete, Inc. in Moss Landing, CA (831-632-0845). The fire pit consists of: “SS burner pan, SS 24” Penta burner, flex lines, valve, and lava base rock; BTU 150k.

I have retained some of the burned lava rock fragments. I have also reported the situation to Mark Concrete, Inc., who states that what I witnessed was impossible. However, I have both the fragments and several eye witnesses who will attest to the exploding rock(s).
