The product, in the report: Brass Urn Fire Pit
I recently purchased a fire pit sold through Walmart, imported by Dewan & Sons and manufactured in India. The problem I am having is the threading on the grating handle is only about a ¼ inch total. This was not long enough to clear the support and grating and then fasten with a nut securely. The threading stripped and the handle popped off while the lid was being lifted off the fire pit resulting in the lid falling into the fire and casting burning material outwards at people standing around the pit. I contacted the Importer and manufacturing contacts and was told they know of the issue and don’t care about the safety concern, that they don’t plan on changing the design and will continue to sell an unsafe product that will likely result in injury to all users including children standing around the fire pits making smores. The site where the item can be found is here: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-and-Gardens-Oil-Rubbed-Brass-Urn-Fire-Pit/17235792 The Importer/Manufacturers site is here: http://dewansons.com From talking with the manufacturer I believe this is an issue with most if not all of their fire pits currently for sale in the U.S. and they stated they are insured up to 5 million in losses per incident so they would rather continue making faulty dangerous products then have to make design changes that would cost them money.
