The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Floor heater

On February 20, 2019 I was in my home office working on several projects. I had the Amazon Basics heater on and suddenly flames came out of the front of the heater. I pulled the electric cord out of the wall and ran down the hall with the heater still on fire. I went through our garage and threw the flaming heater onto our driveway where it burned for about 5 minutes. When the flames finally went out, the heater smoked for quite some time.

I was very lucky that I was quick enough to remove the heater before it could catch my office on fire. If I were disabled, a small child with no supervision, or had stepped out of my office to get a cup of coffee from our kitchen, the heater would have caught my carpet on fire. All carpets are flammable and it would only take a minute for a fire to destroy my home if I was unable to put it out.
