  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Mar 17, 2021, sent to the company Mar 25, 2021, published by CPSC Apr 8, 2021

The product, in the report: WASAKKY “Pyramid Outdoor Patio Heater - 45000 BTU Stainless Steel Propane Heater with Cover, Glass Tube Product names noted above. Stainless steel color with 1/3 lower base consisting of solid metal pieces (4) formed around “pyramid” style structure of unit, with one side consisting of a “door” allowing access to control knob and propane tank. The top 2/3’s of unit consists of grated metal with a centrical glass tube that extends from the base burner to the top of the unit. The brand name and the like were shown on Amazon website but little information on shipping container or packaging materials and no identifying information on the instruction manual.

Using a recently purchased outdoor patio heater, in a pyramid design. Using it for the fourth time at night, was trying to confirm if it was producing any discernable heat (it wasn’t). Pretty visual with the burner at the base, a steel pyramid tower on four sides with visible glass tube from the burner to the top of the unit where the heat is presumably intended to release. Video taping flame simply because it looked cool. Over course of taping flame observed greater intensity burning, which I first assumed meant the unit was finally working correctly and would produce proper heat. Then I noticed that it appeared the flame was no longer coming from the burner but from an area around the perimeter of the burner, within the housing of the unit. Intensity increased. I went to shut off the gas from the plastic valve that is part of the unit. The fire continued. At this point I saw that the fire was coming from the end of the regulator hose that had been attached to the unit. The rubber hose was burning slowly . I estimated I had sufficient time to reach in and turn-off the propane canister - which I did. The flame at the end of the regulator hose extinguished. I had a minor burn to my hand that did not require medical attention and is fine. There was no property damage beyond the unit itself. The unit was on our backyard stone patio, about 10-12 feet from our home. (I tried to file this report the night of the incident but when I went to attached the video files the system crashed and I had to start all over again. The videos are telling and I can try to provide them separately but not with this report. I am the homeowner and I was the only one using the unit at the time of the incident. The prospects of injury seemed high had the fire continued to burn given that the flame was coming directly from the hose/regulator assembly that attaches to the propane tank. The manual with the unit is titled: “Quartz Glass Tube Patio Heater.” Oddly, the manual itself has no contact information nor does it identify any business or other entity. The item was purchased from the Amazon.com website. The item is listed as “Pyramid Outdoor Patio Heater - 45000 BTU Stainless Steel Propane Heater with Cover, Glass Tube” When I spoke to Amazon to obtain the seller contact information to advise of this incident I was told that the company name was just a trade name and they did not have (or could not provide) a seller’s name to me. Via an exchange with the Seller on Amazon platform seller simply indicated a refund had been granted and they would “check with factory.” I replied that i had specific information and was concerned about the product remaining available and in use. No reply.
