The product, in the report: infrared heater mr heater dual fuel 30000 btu
unburnt natural gas out of pilot area. this heater has two pilot lights one for propane one for natural gas. the one i am using now is natural gas and it lights but the propane one has natural gas coming out of nozzle but not enough to actually sustain a flame but it tries to light. i don’t believe that having unburnt fuel in my home is good idea. when i contacted mr heater the technician says it is in the owners manual that this will happen. just because the owner manual says it is ok doesnt make it ok. unburnt fuel can build up and blow up. fuel and air makes things go boom. so doubt this is safe. and they know it. the average person would most likely never notice but i use this as a emergency heater for winter such as a back up and i test it every fall and i happen to notice it spurting a flame out of secondary pilot orifice. being i work around natural gas and know this cannot be safe.

The product, in the report: Mr Heater Big Buddy Pro Series 18000 BTU Red and Black colors Has two tiles that turn from white to Orange when heated. Still looks new even after this incident.
Tried to use my : Mr Heater I got a year ago. It’s the Big Buddy 18000 BTU Pro Series. The box it came in has an extra bar code that reads EC-74800-2303001546/ The UPC code is 089301748002. Yesterday I hooked it up and was having an issue with getting the knob to go past the pilot selection. Customer service told me there is a sweet spot in the middle of the springy knob that permits the turning. Great, but when the high setting is used, some popping blue flames exist at the top corners of the right side tile. The company wants to change out this unit for a new one. Well today I turned it on, and after a couple of minutes , the right side started shooting blue flames out into the room, almost starting a house fire. I had to turn off the propane tank at the end of the hose. Well, thinking the high setting is defective but I need heat, I decided to try just the left tile selections (Low and Medium). No problem with that left side. But I intend to take this unit to a [REDACTED] to ship this unit like I was told yesterday to do as soon I can after the cold snap ends. I ain’t waiting. I’m going to box it up and ship it today. I don’t know if this was a quaility control issue or also someone forgetting the assembly directions. I can see the right tile looks loose.

No incident, no one hurt Made Oct 24, 2022, sent to the company Oct 28, 2022, published by CPSC Nov 14, 2022
The product, in the report: Mr Heater golf cart heater. Black, green, & silver. The unit mounts to a small propane tank (not included with the heater) which then mounts to a bottom piece which fits into a cup holder on the golf cart.
I purchased a Mr Heater golf cart heater and was preparing it for use. I installed it into my golf cart cup holder. I followed the instructions to ignite the heater and noticed the start button was hard to push and would not return to it’s original position. After several attempts the button loosened up and seemed to be working properly. I was able to ignite the unit and was making sure it was working properly. After approx. 30 seconds there was a large flame that came out of the side and back of the unit. I quickly removed it from the golf cart a laid it on the ground and the flame went out. I did not try to re-start the unit. There were no injuries and no damage to the golf cart.

The product, in the report: Heater
The consumer states that the heater has a plastic igniter switch that attaches to a metal bracket on the back of the unit. He had started the unit on its highest level in his garage with the garage door opened for approximately fifteen minutes when he noticed that the top of this igniter switch had caught fire with flames about four to six inches high. The consumer immediately turned the valve off to shut the heater off. The fire did not spread and eventually ceased.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him they had never heard of such an incident occur and so they will send him a shipping label so the consumer can send the product back to them for investigation.
The consumer indicates that prior to the incident occurring, he had only used the heater twice for approximately three to four hours each time, and that the day of the incident was the first time he had set it to its highest setting.
The consumer does not plan on keeping the unit for at least the next thirty days.
