The product, in the report: HearthRite ventless propane heater Model HR 15TL-2. Serial number EM 15006419
I have a two year old ventless propane heater in our second home in North Carolina. It is made by Empire Comfort Systems in Belleville, Il. It is a HearthRith model HR 15 TL2. Yesterday, at about 6:30 PM, it was cold in the house so I raised the thermostat and activated the switch to turn on the fan. Within seconds the fire alarm went off and I saw flames and black smoke coming from the vents at the top of the heater where the fan motor is. I quickly turned off the gas and got the flames out. This was a very unsettling event. If this fan went on automatically while we were not home it would have burnt down our cabin.
