A fire involving a propane heater occurred on 12/10/2023 after what appeared to be a catastrophic failure of the heating unit. The unit involved was a Remington Construction Heater 16,000 BTU, model #: REM-16-TTC-O, this unit was affixed to a [REDACTED] 20 Lb. propane cylinder. While using the heater the consumer had allowed the unit to run for several minutes before the heater upright became disconnected resulting in a open and uncontrolled flame protruding from the unit. The flame appeared to be coming from an orifice where two screws hold the upright to the valve body of this unit. This equipment was being operated by the Consumer, [REDACTED]. The device being reported was being used in a well ventilated shop area according to the designed uses. No injuries occurred during this incident, however there was a potential for injury and significant property damage.

No one hurt Made Jan 12, 2018, sent to the company Jun 8, 2018, published by CPSC Jun 22, 2018
The product, in the report: Portable, two-wheeled space heater Product type: Kerosene or #2 Diesel Fuel Oil
The consumer indicates that his portable, two-wheeled space heater has a small rubber stopper/ gasket that holds back approximately fifty pounds of diesel or fuel. The consumer states that on 09/15/2017, the rubber stopper came off the unit when it was not in use and only had a small amount of fuel in it. The consumer speculates pressure may have caused the rubber stopper to pop off, or wearing-out over time of the rubber stopper/ gasket. The consumer believes a metal gasket may be a solution.
09/19/2017 - The consumer contacted the Manufacturer at [REDACTED] and explained the situation to [REDACTED], who informed him that the company was aware of the problem and thus their engineers were working on a resolution. The consumer asked to be informed when a solution was found however the representative refused to take his contact information.
10/17/2017 – The consumer submitted a complaint of the issue via e-mail to [REDACTED] however no response were ever received.
The consumer indicates that prior to the incident, the unit was used approximately five to six times.
The consumer states that since the incident occurred, he has ceased use of the unit and now stores it covered outside his home. The consumer plans on keeping his portable, two-wheeled space heater for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.
To Whom It May Concern:
Find attached additional information concerning the rubber fuel tank drain plug that slipped out of the portable heating unit that I own that was manufactured by the Pinnacle Climate Technologies Company.
First, a correction to the spelling of the person’s last name who is the company representative that recently contacted me via phone. It is [REDACTED].
Secondly, the amount of total fuel that my particular heater can contain is 10 gallons, US. See attached specification sheet. During its use I normally would only put into the tank about 5 gallons, or less. Therefore, if the fuel tank was filled to capacity the weight of the fuel in the tank would increase to approximately 75 to 80 pounds. (8 lbs/gal x 10 = 80 lbs, est.)
And lastly, in review of my construction notes for the winter of 2016/2017, I had used this heater later, on a limited basis. Find attached a photo of the small project that I was working on during this period of time. Therefore, as a clarification, as previously stated, I had used this heater about a half dozen times to start my air cooled diesel tractor that winter. However, later, the heater was used a few more times on this open air construction project.
If you have any questions concerning this additional information, please contact, as necessary.
Sincerely, [REDACTED]
