The product, in the report: Electric Heater. Honeywell HHF360B

The power cord was worn down at the base of the heater. It triggered a small fire as a result of the damaged cord. IMPORTANT: As seen in the “Damaged Cord” photo attachment, the insulation on the power cord had worn down over time. It is my opinion that the power cord connection location should not be at the base of the heater. This caused a wearing down of the cord over time, thus creating a fire hazard which indeed took place. The power cord connection should be up higher on the heater body. At the base there is too much bending and eroding over time. The product is a Honeywell Heater, 360 (degree) Surround Heat, Fan Forced Technology. HHF360B I was using the product. The product was being used as directed, on a flat surface near my bed. No injuries, but I heard a popping sound, saw my bedroom wall illuminating, then saw a very small fire on a pierce of cardboard at the base of the heater. Of course, it’s a good thing I heard and saw what was happening as I lay in my bed, fortunate to have been awake when this happened.

The product, in the report: Honeywell (KAZ Inc) Model HZ-690 Oil-filled electric heater

Heater was plugged into wall outlet and heating the room (8x12) from an initial chilly state. Heater began to make a fizzling sound and release wisps of smoke, then the control panel lit up with bright light and a loud sizzle for about 10 seconds. The sensation was similar to a sparker on July 4th. I thought the unit was afire and moved the unit towards the middle of the room after the first few seconds, but it stopped eventually and the unit was dead (no lights). Unplugged the unit and checked the wall outlet for heat or scorching, but there were no signs of damage or overloading, and the outlet appears to be functioning normally.

The product, in the report: 2 Electric Oil-Filled Heaters

Really this is two reports in one. I bought two Honeywell Oil Filled electric Heaters model HZ-709-WM from WalMart in 2009. I gave one to my mother and kept one. The one I kept smoked and the venthole in front melted so I quit using it. My mother reported hers smoked with electrical smell and became afraid to use it. I contacted Honeywell and they are planning to replace them with them with identical units. I think I would rather have the $72.73 each I paid for them, but that was not offered.
