The product, in the report: Envi Wall Mounted Heater Model HH1012T

My E-heat ENVI wall heater caught on fire at 6:30 a.m. January 18. It was the scariest day of my life. This heater was purchased in 2016, and recalled in 2018. I sent the unit back to the manufacturer during the recall, and I received a unit back with a sticker of “Serviced 2018”. Luckily I was able to get the fire out. I emptied my ABC fire extinguisher on it, which seemed to make it worse, and then dumped a 3 gallon jug of water on it. The fire started in the control switch, and it burnt up the wall. My carpet is a mess because of the fire extinguisher powder, everything in my travel trailer smells like toxic, acrid, burnt plastic. I mean everything - clothes, bedding, curtains, upholstery, carpet. I reported this to E-heat, and they offered a heater in exchange. Then they offered $250. Then they offered $250 + the $140 cost of a replacement heater. These heaters should not be sold on the market. They are unsafe.

The Env. wall-mount electric heater, made by eHeat, was left on at a low setting over night in an office space outside our central heating system but attached to our house. During the night the smell of electrical fire and smoke was detected. That morning we found the electric heater had completely failed and a small electrical fire had occurred as was evident by the smoke marks on the wall above the thermostat and power button. The unit was no longer working at the time of discovery but it had not drawn enough power to trip the circuit breaker.

The product, in the report: Envi wall mounted electric heater

Our Envi wall heater was on in the bathroom, I heard a loud wired clicking noise and saw massive sparks fly in the bathroom. I rushed in and turned the heater off, they were coming from the top of the heater and they were big enough that I thought the bathroom would catch fire. The top of the plastic near the switch cracked and it smelled like burnt plastic and wiring.

The product, in the report: Envi High-Efficiency Whole Room Plug-In Electric Panel Heater (HH1012T) white purchased 10/4/18.

Envi model # HH1012T overheated on second attempt to use it. Worked fine on first attempt after installed. Second time it was turned on at lowest setting it became very hot without cycling off and the on/off button light no longer worked. It was hot enough that the wall was almost too hot to touch and it smelled like things were scorching.

The company, eheat.com, has taken it back and will fix or replace. I’ve read that there was a recall of earlier year models and am wondering if it is still a problem, i.e. whether it is safe to use this model of heater.

The product, in the report: Envi electric heater

On 11/25/17 the envi heater caught on fire in our 20 month old toddler’s room leaving a cloud of smoke and soot everywhere. Eheat customer service reps and [REDACTED] (manager with Eheat) repeatedly assured us on how safe the envi heater was and that the flames were self retardant. My husband and I had to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher. Nearly 2 months later the room still has a stench of burning plastic and is unusable at the current state. Eheat stated that they could not cover the damages, but only provided a ‘goodwill’ monetary value of $150 (which was respectively declined).

The product, in the report: Envi wall mounted heater

On Saturday, June 10, 2017 my husband went into the bathroom on the ground floor of our home around 9pm and found it filled with smoke. Even though the Envi wall heater appeared to be on fire, the unit was still on, as evidenced by the light on the on/off button. My husband unplugged the heater, removed it from the wall and took it outside. I came downstairs and entered the bathroom to find it filled with smoke, and black soot covering the wall near the location where the Envi heater had been installed prior to my husband removing it moments before. We opened windows and doors to air out the bathroom and monitored the bathroom and adjacent rooms to make sure the interior of the adjacent walls had not been ignited.

The product is an Envi High-Efficiency Whole Room Plug-In Electric Panel (HH1012T) wall heater. It has been mounted on a wall in our home, as per the instructions, for about two years. We left the heater on intentionally at night in our home office, which has no other heat source. In the morning, we smelled something burning, and found that a hole had melted in the housing of the heater, the power button had popped out (and been melted in place), and there were burn marks on the wall behind and above the heater. We immediately unplugged the heater and aired out the house.
