The product, in the report: Electric wood stove heater

I purchased a Dimplex Electric heater (it is large and burgundy) a few years ago. It looks like a wood stove. For the past few weeks, it has been randomly kicking off and no heat would come out but it would still run. I would unplug it for a bit and then restart the stove. It would have good days and bad days and sometimes would run with heat all day without disruption while not working at all other days.

Last night, I heard a loud pop. I looked over and the unit was flaming from inside. I immediately unplugged the unit. It also put some burn marks on the outlet. Luckily, I was able to unplug the unit, lift it and get it outside right away. I opened the front door of the stove and smoke was billowing out and it was flaming slightly. It did stop. I think because I was able to open the door, it allowed for air to get in and release everything.

The unit is Dimplex Air Heater Model Number DS5629CR

The Serial Number is 123110D3F 178

I did contact the company this morning to notifiy them of what happened. I believe that if I was not present when this happened it would have definitely caught my house on fire. Luckily, I was home and the fire for the most part was contained inside the unit. The number that I called was 1-800-668-6663. I spoke with a rep named [REDACTED] at extension [REDACTED]. She opened a report and asked for me to send pictures and said she was not aware of any issues with this unit. She asked for me to unscrew the inside piece to try and get pictures of the inside and also whatever other pictures that I could so she could show her supervisor. I told her that if this hasn’t really happened before that perhaps they need the unit back for technicians or engineers to take a look at and evaluate. Pictures don’t really represent the issue.
