The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 16, 2018, sent to the company Apr 11, 2018, published by CPSC Apr 25, 2018

The product, in the report: Venmar High Efficiency Air Exchanger 2.6 (Ducted Heat Recovery Ventilator)

After the air exchanger cycled on after changing to winter settings, a horrible burning smell circulated throughout the house. Upon discovering the source of the smell, we immediately unplugged the unit. The HVAC company who initially installed the product came out and opened up the unit revealing the charred motor and melted foam “insulation.” The HVAC company indicated the motor had caught fire.

    CSPC recall #15-025

Last week, I had to replace the motor on my Venmar AVS Solo 2.0 air exchanger. When I conducted a search for a replacement motor, I came across this recall. It was determined that the motor had “seized up” and may have led to a fire if I hadn’t turned the unit off after noticing the problem.

The product, in the report: Venmar Solo AVS 2.0 Air exchanger

The Venmar Solo 2.0 air exchanger bearings over heated. It caused the air exchanger to over heat and make a thumping noise that you could hear on our floor above. There have been other Venmar products recalled, and this product should be part of the recall process.
