The product, in the report: The product is a white Midea U-Shaped Smart Window Air Conditioner with a cooling capacity of 12000 BTU. The specific model numbers are MAW12V1QWT and MAW12AV1QWT. The physical dimensions of the unit are approximately 22 inches wide, 13.5 inches tall, and 19 inches deep. This exact model series is explicitly listed on the official manufacturer product safety recall registry due to a known design flaw involving internal moisture retention and severe biological mold exposure risks. Although the manufacturer claims this specific units serial number falls outside their automated database production date boundaries, the physical chassis design and dimensions are completely identical to the recalled units, and it is failing mechanically in the exact same manner.
This report involves a Midea U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner Model MAW12V1QWT or MAW12AV1QWT being used by a consumer in a standard residential window for normal seasonal cooling. The unit was installed flawlessly level according to Step 8 of the manufacturers instruction manual and utilized the designated factory-issued drain plug kit.
Despite meticulous user maintenance, including regular cleaning of the air filter every two weeks, and a completely unblocked, clean exterior drainage path, the appliance suffers from a severe manufacturing and engineering defect regarding internal moisture clearance and drainage. The internal chassis traps and retains excessive stagnant water, causing rapid, dense, and severe biological mold colonization across the internal blower wheel and [REDACTED] housing within just six months of seasonal use.
The product creates an immediate, severe respiratory health hazard. When operating, the internal fan blows mold spores and contaminated air directly into the enclosed living space, posing a serious risk of chronic respiratory illness, fungal exposure, and severe allergic reactions to occupants.
When contacted regarding this hazard, the manufacturers customer support acknowledged in writing that the mold is located inside inaccessible areas of the unit, yet refused to honor the active warranty or its own voluntary product safety recall for this identical chassis series. They instead instructed the consumer to personally hire a third-party professional to dismantle the under-warranty appliance, or follow a separate cleaning sheet instructing users to manually spray water directly into the front louvers near active electrical components - creating an additional severe risk of electrocution and fire. The manufacturer refuses to offer a safe remedy, forcing consumers to harbor a respiratory hazard in their homes.

The product, in the report: Midea U-Shaped 8,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner. This is a white and grey residential room cooling unit featuring a unique split “U-shape” design that allows a window sash to lower into the center of the frame.
I own a Midea U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner (Model: MAW08U1QWT. Because of the official recall (25-320), this unit was serviced and repaired in 2025 by a professional service company contracted directly by Midea. Despite this professional, certified recall repair, the underlying drainage defect has completely failed to resolve. The unit still suffers from severe internal drainage issues. Water is pooling continuously at the base of the evaporator coils inside the plastic chassis. This stagnant moisture has caused aggressive, recurrent mold and mildew to grow heavily throughout the air distribution path. The unit is actively blowing air across a mold colony directly into my living space. This presents an ongoing respiratory and biological health hazard, proving that the manufacturer’s official recall repair mechanism does not work.

I purchased the Midea u shaped air conditioner model number maw08v1qwt. It has a black mold issue. Manufacturer is supposed to offer you a plug solution or a refund. They are refusing to give me a refund. I do not want an air conditioner that has a big black mold issue.

No incident, no one hurt Made Sep 29, 2026, sent to the company Oct 6, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 21, 2026
The product, in the report: Midea U-shaped window air conditioner, model MAW12U1QWT, 12,000 BTU. White/gray plastic housing. Designed to fit in a window so the window can close through the unit. Used for cooling a room (approximately 550 sq. ft. capacity). The unit develops mold on interior components and produces a musty odor during normal household use.
I purchased a Midea MAW12U1QWT U-shaped window air conditioner from Home Depot on March 2, 2026. After normal household use, the unit developed visible mold growth on interior components. A strong, persistent musty odor also developed. On multiple occasions after running the unit, I woke up with headaches. The design of the unit makes thorough cleaning of the mold-prone interior surfaces including areas around the blower and behind the grille difficult or impossible without complete disassembly. I followed the manufacturers recommended cleaning steps, but the mold and odor remained. Midea has confirmed the model is part of the family that was previously recalled by the CPSC for mold growth caused by inadequate drainage, but they classify my specific unit as a revised version manufactured after the original recall period. They denied a refund and stated that mold is a maintenance issue not covered by warranty. I am reporting this because the unit is still producing the same mold hazard that led to the earlier recall, even on a post-recall revised unit, and it has caused health symptoms headaches after use.

The product, in the report: I have a 12,000 BTU U AC and a 6,000 BTU U AC with the same mold buildup issue.
I got a message about my purchase of Midea U units having mold buildup issues. I checked my model numbers but did not see them listed. This prompted me to check my units inside anyway and found that both the MAW12V1UWT and MAW06V1UWT have mold building up inside. I would like to go with the repair option if possible for my units.

The product, in the report: Midea 12,000 BTU Smart Inverter Plus Window Air Conditioner (White, for rooms up to 550 sq. ft., with dual filter and remote).
I am writing to formally escalate a series of critical product failures, health and safety hazards, and warranty evasions regarding three Midea air conditioning units I purchased. Over the last several months, I have spent so much money on three separate Midea units. All three have completely failed within 90 days of purchase, well within the 1-year manufacturer warranty.
My first units were the U-shaped models. These units developed severe black mold, which physically made me sick. When I contacted Midea to address this known issue and access the recall program, my request was ignored. Instead, your frontline support team provided an arbitrary form and illegally attempted to deflect responsibility back to Home Depot. Home Depot correctly confirmed that the retailer return window has closed and that Midea is legally obligated to honor the active manufacturer warranty.
My most recent unit is now exhibiting severe electrical and mechanical failures. The unit is turning off randomly, the display is flickering, the settings change on their own, and the unit is filling up with water. This is an unacceptable electrical and property damage hazard.
Your frontline customer service has actively stonewalled me, refused to honor the warranty, and dismissed a serious health hazard caused by your product.

The product, in the report: Both are window air conditioners from Midea, box shaped (not U) with control panels on the left side, and removable filters. The first one (MAW05M1WWT) is a white model with physical dials, whereas the second one (MAW05R1WBL) is a black model with button controls and a remote.
I heard Midea air conditioners had a massive recall due to water buildup leading to massive mold problems. Both of my Midea air conditioners bought approx 5 years ago (MAW05M1WWT) and 4 years ago (MAW05R1WBL) respectively absolutely have a water and mold issue. My first one had built up so much mold that it was visible on the vents within 1.5 months of normal use. The other one (Which is a black model) does not have as much visible mold but very clearly has a water buildup issue, which is extremely audible when the air conditioner is turned on and off, it once even started spewing ICE at me when I was using the Comfort Sense mode with the remote, again that was the (MAW05R1WBL)

The product, in the report: AC Unit
The consumer is reporting an issue involving an air conditioning (AC) unit that is not currently included in an existing recall, but the consumer believes it should be.
The consumer discovered black mold inside the AC unit. The presence of mold raises concerns regarding health risks and improper functioning of the unit. When the consumer contacted the company about the issue, the company stated that they were not responsible and refused to provide assistance. The consumer believes this model should be added to the existing recall, because the mold poses a safety and health hazard to anyone using the product.
Black mold discovered inside an AC unit. Potential health concerns related to mold exposure. The consumer believes the affected model may have a defect that warrants inclusion in an existing recall.
The consumer contacted the company, but the company declined responsibility and did not offer a remedy or guidance.
Frigidaire subsequently emailed me cleaning instructions that did not explain how to get the water and mold out of the ac unit. The ac unit is not draining at all. This would appear to be why there is mold in the unit. Frigidaire has not responded further and neither Home Depot or Midea have either. I have an AC unit that cannot run and will have to replace.

The product, in the report: Its a midea 8000 btu WiFi window ac standard shape model number MAW08S1JWT-B. its white. I cant measure it right now but you should be able to find it by the model number
This morning I went to turn off my midea window ac that was bought brand new from BJs last year and noticed that it was covered in white mold spores all over the vent where air blows into the room. I took pictures of the front but they arent great as I was sending them to my fianc but I will include those either way. I turned it off but left it where it was because I was in a rush to leave the house. When I got home I immediately took it outside because I was going to attempt to try to clean it but I happened to look inside the back metal part into where the [REDACTED] was and saw that there was nasty gross pinky/orangey/brownish sludge was in the bottom of the ac too. I do not think this is safe to try to clean and I can only find the U shaped ones being recalled not the standard shaped ones and I just dont think this is safe. I guess it could have been inserted incorrectly but I feel like I would have noticed that before all this mold grew

I purchased a midea MAW08U1QWT (S/N: 54120300215AB030640394) last month. I installed it per the instructions. It has water collecting on the “inside” portion on the unit. The product, in the report: Midea U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner 8000 BTU. Approximate weight: 50 lbs.
The product is a Midea U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner that suffers from the critical drainage failure detailed in CPSC Recall Notice #25-241. Water pools heavily in the base pan and fails to drain, creating an active, trapped mold hazard inside my apartment unit. Compounding this issue, the unit has suffered a total mechanical failure, displaying the EC 07 error code (outdoor fan speed/compressor failure). Because I live in an apartment building with stairs, this heavy, mold-retaining appliance is a physical and biological hazard trapped in my living space. Local handymen refuse to touch or transport the unit due to the active mold growth and complex U-shaped structural frame. The manufacturer, Midea, has refused to assist with the physical removal or installation of a safe alternative, trying instead to force an inadequate prorated cash offer that does not cover the cost of hazardous product extraction.

The product, in the report: MIDEA 8000 BTU 115V SMART WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER WITH COMFORT SENCE REMOTE 350SQ. MODEL MAW08S1DWWT
I am filing a complaint regarding multiple Midea window air conditioners that developed significant mold growth inside the units despite normal use and maintenance.
On June 3, 2025, I purchased two Midea 8,000 BTU Smart Window Air Conditioners, Model MAW08S1DWWT, from Walmart for approximately $468 total. I later discovered mold growth throughout the interior of the units, including pooled water areas and internal fins. The mold issue became visible after proper seasonal storage and cleaning.
I contacted Midea customer support and submitted photographs, model information, and details of the mold contamination. Midea acknowledged my complaint and opened a service request case. However, instead of offering a replacement, refund, repair, or meaningful resolution, the company repeatedly sent generic cleaning instructions that did not address the seriousness of the issue.
This is unacceptable because mold inside an air conditioner presents a potential health hazard, especially when the unit blows contaminated air into the home. I maintained the units responsibly and should not have to dismantle or deep-clean internal mold contamination on relatively new appliances.
Additionally, I informed Midea that I own multiple units and referenced recall concerns during my customer support communication. Despite this, the company failed to properly investigate or provide a satisfactory customer service resolution.

There is mold in the product. I called the help line and opened a case number- when they reviewed the details they said Yes it is part of the recall, but the recall people will not honor it even though this unit if purchased before 2025 is known to have issues with mold. There is mold clearly in the unit.

black mold inside an a/c window unit made by Midea NOT COVERED BY RECENT RECALL/LAWSUITS. They are covering newer designed unit with the same water problem causing black mold to form inside the unit. I contacted them and they told me MY unit was not covered during the “voluntary recall” even though they have been SUED due to the black mold issue. My unit retains water just like the new units and caused black mold. We reported this issue to Midea within months of buying the unit and they ignored the water issue.

The product, in the report: Window unit A/C
The consumer and her husband became ill shortly after the window A/C unit was installed in their home. The consumer was hospitalized because she was extremely dizzy. Both of the consumers were diagnosed with sepsis and hospitalized for days. Currently, the husband is back in the hospital and since this A/C unit was purchased, the consumer has been in the hospital more than any other point in her life. Summer-2025: The consumer received the recall notice: #25-320. That’s when they concluded that the A/C unit had to be the cause. The A/C unit gave off a mildew-like odor, but they did not connect the dots until they received the recall. Notice. Afterwards, they discarded the A/C discarded. The product, in the report: Midea room AC model MWAUK-12CRN8-BCJ9 12,0000 btuh
Purchased Midea room AC in April this year. Shortly after the remote stopped working and AC started short cycling and turning itself off and on repeatedly. Then the LED’s which indicate temperature setting burned out so that you can’t read the set temperature. Then black mold started to accumulate in reservoir and water started condensing inside and around the indoor front panel. I developed a sore throat several nights and runny nose and sneezing and tearing eyes.

No one hurt Made Nov 17, 2025, sent to the company Nov 21, 2025, published by CPSC Dec 8, 2025
The product, in the report: To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint regarding Midea and their failure to provide any meaningful remedy for a recall-related issue that I first reported in June 2025. Since that time, I have made numerous attempts to resolve the matter, including several phone calls to Mideas hotline and dozens of email communications with their support representatives. Despite my consistent follow-upcurrently reaching out at least once per weekMidea has not provided a refund, store credit, replacement, or any acceptable remedy. Midea dispatched a technician to inspect the affected units months ago. His written report confirmed substantial mold growth as well as air-conditioning malfunction, noting that the units do not cool properly. I also submitted extensive photographic evidence showing the large amount of visible mold present in the units. All of this documentation clearly supports that the products are defective and unsafe. Despite this evidence, Midea has not taken responsibility for the issue. Their hotline has informed me that they cannot help and instructed me to continue emailing individual representatives, but no resolution has ever been provided. Midea has offered zero compensation, zero refund, and zero store credit, and they have not attempted to retrieve the defective units, which remain stored in my garage. This unresolved matter raises serious health concerns for my household due to documented mold contamination, and the lack of responsiveness from Midea since early June demonstrates a disregard for consumer safety and regulatory obligations. I am requesting that the Consumer Product Safety Commission review this complaint and assist in facilitating an appropriate remedy, as Midea has been unresponsive and unwilling to resolve the issue despite months of documented communication. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Midea 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Smart Inverter Air Conditioner
Incident Description: The recalled Midea unit is in my daughters bedroom. She is highly allergic and has eczema. Since the unit began showing mold contamination, she has been coughing frequently, especially at night, though we have not yet taken her to a doctor. I am concerned about her ongoing exposure in her room. Product/Recall: Midea 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Smart Inverter Air Conditioner mold exposure recall My case numbers: Original case (3 units): [REDACTED], [REDACTED]; Escalation case [REDACTED] I opened an escalation for my recall case in mid-July and have called weekly. Midea acknowledges my case but has not provided a workable remedy. For health and safety reasons, I do not feel it is safe to cut the cord on a mold-contaminated unit, and I do not have a safe or practical means to dispose of it on my own. Midea has acknowledged my case but is refusing to provide a safe return remedy within a reasonable timeframe. They continue to tell me to wait indefinitely. I have repeatedly requested a prepaid return box or pickup. I was told I am at the end of the line with no ETA. This leaves the recalled units in my home, posing a health risk. Requested action: Require Midea to honor the recall by providing a safe return option (prepaid return box or pickup) and a prompt timeline.
UPDATED ON 11/21/2025: [Following the recall instructions, I received shipping boxes from Midea and returned three affected units. Midea has confirmed receipt of all three units, but to date I have only been reimbursed for two of them. The third unit has not been reimbursed, and I have not been given a clear explanation despite multiple contacts with their customer service. On November 7, 2025, I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about this issue. As of today, the situation remains unresolved.]

The product, in the report: Air Conditioning
6/13/2025: The consumer saw the recall noticed in the [REDACTED] and contacted the manufacture. (early 6/2025): The consumer received the recall information through his Amazon account and called the company. However, he was told that his A/C unit’s serial number was not included in the recall. The consumer scanned his information and sent it to the recall firm. The consumer was given an Escalation I.D. # [REDACTED]. The rep. told him that since his serial number was not included, they would escalate his case. Of note, the consumer is renting a mobile home, and it gets extremely hot. He is 78-year-old and needs A/C. The mold odor has been impacting his health, but he doesn’t have any other options at this time, as he is on disability. He noticed an extensive mold odor from the A/C over the past 2 months.. Therefore, every Sunday, he sprays bleach into the 2 exterior vents on the outside of the unit. Then, he removes the front interior grill and sprays bleach inside of it. Next, he removes some of the molded parts of the A/C and scrapes them using a mold cleaner. He said that most of the time, the water doesn’t drain from the A/C, but occasionally, it works properly. The consumer is concerned that more A/C units could be impacted than the ones listed in the recall. The consumer’s Amazon Order Number: [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: White Approximately 22 inches across U shaped Air conditioner
Midea recently recalled many of their air conditioning units for mold growth, one of which was one I owned. I immediately followed their guidelines on their website to submit for a repair. About a week later, after receiving no reply, other than an automated email, I began to smell mildew and mold emanating from my AC. Within a day I had noticed I had begun having issues breathing normally and had severe irritation in my sinuses and throat (as did my pet). Due to this, I then emailed the official recall email for Midea supplying the relevant information for my unit and asking to switch to a refund. They never got back to me. I also sent a follow up a few days later which they also never responded to. Additionally, I have not even heard anything about the initial repair request. I have since had to spend money to get another AC so that I would not be risking my respiratory health just to stay cool in an intense heatwave.

The product, in the report: This unit is described as seen below on the retailer’s website. “Midea 12,000 BTU Smart Inverter Air Conditioner Window Unit with Heat and Dehumidifier Cools up to 550 Sq. Ft., Energy Star Rated, Quiet Operation, Electronic Controls, Remote Control, White”
I have had a mold problem with this Midea window AC unit. It is not the U-shaped model but it has a very similar design and blower. It has been a frequent issue. I have re-read the installation manual to ensure I have the proper tilt and drainage. I have also regularly cleaned the filter with warm soapy water.

I have purchased Product: Midea 8,000 BTU U Shaped Smart Inverter Window Air Conditioner, Cools up to 350 Sq. Ft., Ultra Quiet with Open Window Flexibility, Works with [REDACTED], 35% Energy Savings, Remote Control through Amazon Order ID: [REDACTED] on 07/23/2022. Amazon informed me about an issue with this product which I have already experienced but couldn’t fix. It’s a leakage that pooled water in the air conditioners that fail to drain quickly enough, which can lead to mold growth. Mold exposure poses risks of respiratory issues or other infections to some consumers. I’m using the product in my bedroom with my spouse. No injuries yet. I contacted the company where they told me that the product is not included in the recall although the same symptoms exist.

The product, in the report: Midea 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Smart Inverter Window Air Conditioner. White. Mounted in a double-hung bedroom window. Approx. 22 wide, 19 deep, 13 high. Used as instructed for home cooling.
I used a Midea 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Smart Inverter Window Air Conditioner daily in my bedroom starting in mid-May 2025. After about a week, I began developing symptoms including chest congestion, sinus pressure, fatigue, and a persistent cough. These symptoms persisted and worsened over several weeks. My 6-year-old child also developed a daily cough after sleeping in the room with the unit running.
On June 14, I discovered that the product had been recalled on June 5, 2025, due to mold exposure risk. I had not received a recall notice. Amazon later confirmed the email was sent to an outdated [REDACTED] address that I no longer use, despite my account being active under a different address.
I was seen at [REDACTED] Urgent Care on June 16, 2025. Fluid was found in my ears, and I was prescribed doxycycline (antibiotic), fluticasone (nasal spray), cetirizine (antihistamine), and promethazine-DM (cough suppressant). My symptoms are still resolving. My child has not received treatment yet but remains symptomatic.
I am submitting this report to document both the health effects and the notification failure. Amazon declined to escalate my complaint or issue a case ID when I asked them to acknowledge the safety concern formally.

The product, in the report: Midea 12,000 BTU DUO Portable Air Conditioner with [REDACTED] - Portable room air conditioner
Mold build up in the portable a/c unit. The only way to possibly fix is to dissasemble a portion of the unit, spray blower fan with bleach and then flush with water and hope you got it all. This was not easy and required taking the unit outside to do. I do not expect most customers would do this and may not even notice the mold build up on the blower fan. This seems to be the same issue as with the window units that are currently being recalled.

The product, in the report: These items, after being purchased, have caused respiratory problems for my children, my wife, and even me. One of them had to undergo emergency surgery, causing adenoids. The doctor asked us if we used the air conditioner a lot, and I said yes. I think that somehow the water didn’t drain when it was turned on, and a series of molds and bad odors appeared in the air. From that situation, we found ourselves in the need to remove the three air conditioners installed in my house.

The doctor asked us if we used the air conditioner a lot, and I said yes. I think that somehow the water didn’t drain when it was turned on, and a series of molds and bad odors appeared in the air. From that situation, we found ourselves in the need to remove the three air conditioners installed in my house.

The product, in the report: Midea 12,000 btu u-shaped smart inverter air conditioner cools up to 550 square feet. White in color.
Midea U and U+ A/Cs are involved in a recall. Notified by Amazon and this comission website. Two of the four that I have were verified by model and serial number as hazardous and possible mold growth. Two of the other match the model numbers that are involved in the recall, but the serial numbers do not match. I took pictures to prove and send to the third-party recall center that theyre pulling water just like the other ones. Despite not getting any resolution and Ive tried reaching out to both the Midea customer service and the recall number and email. No resolution has been reached. Meanwhile, these products should be reported because theres a possible possibility that they will develop mold growth too because water pooling in the unit is not evaporate fast enough.

We just discovered the recall for the Midea U-Shaped Air Conditioner. My wife and I use the A/C in our bedroom. When cleaning, we noticed a black residue under the filter but since it was dry, thought it was settled dust. This makes more sense. As far as injuries, both of us suffer from respiratory issues and use CPAPs as well.

The product, in the report: Midea 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Smart Inverter Air Conditioner (Model # MAW08V1QWT). It was bought on Amazon. White. About 2x2x2 feet dimensions.
I’ve being using Midea U shape air conditioner (model # MAW08V1QWT) for months, which is recently recalled due to the product’s tendency to accumulate mold. I’ve inspected the air conditioner and found severe mold accumulation. Also, I have experienced difficulty in breathing, stuffed nose, and redness in eye for the past few months. The doctor suggested it is related to allergic reactions, which I now suspect it might be related to the moldy air conditioner.

We have had these things since July of 2020 and during that time I have developed a diagnosis of COPD & cannot breath at night without forced air & am currently referred to pulmonologist for further workup on low oxygen levels & trouble breathing & my wife’s asthma has gone from using an inhaler once a month, to 2-3 times a day.

The product, in the report: Its the midea U-shaped air conditioner window unit
I was using a recently recalled midea air conditioner u shaped. I used it since the summer of last year for a couple months. It worked fine but then I remember one night all of a sudden I got sick and I my lungs hurt and it was crazy. I was like sensing that it had something to do with the air conditioner it made me so freaking sick, but I had no idea there was mold in it. I didnt know. I just didnt think that there was mold in the air conditioner so I continue to live with that thing for months, but then finally, I just decided to unplug it, but it was still sitting there releasing freaking mold and mold spores and I have been sick for over a freaking year. I have had all kinds of symptoms. The worst is I cant sleep. My lungs hurt at night so painful. Im itching. I have headaches. Its just god-awful.

The product, in the report: Midea U-Shaped Inverter Window Air Conditioner
LARGE amounts of black, fuzzy mold was discovered in all 3 of our U-Shaped Midea air conditioners. One air conditioner is in our 1 and a half year old son’s nursery and has been installed right before he was born. He has had a constant battle of hives, eczema outbreaks, extremely dry skin, sneezing, runny nose, constant sore throat, difficulty swallowing, restlessness, etc. This mold was only discovered after shining a flashlight into ALL 3 units in 08/30/2023. This was done to try to find the source of a musty smell and we would have never known to do this if it wasn’t for a [REDACTED] video we watched: [REDACTED]
Our mold problem looks EXACTLY like what is seen in this video. We our beyond disgusted and frustrated that our son has to deal with a lifetime of health issues because of this mold. His eczema outbreaks and dry skin has gotten so much worse over the past year and we never knew the cause of it until now. My husband and I have also experienced systems such as sneezing, constant sore throat, sinus infections, nosebleeds, itchy eyes, etc.
