The product, in the report: Residential air conditioner heat pump condensing unit. Model: GSZC160601, Rev#: CA, Model Desc.: 16 SEER HP, 5 Ton, Mfg Date: 6/1/2021, Install Date: 3/11/2022
My brand new Goodman residential air conditioner condensing unit had an overheating condition while in normal operation [REDACTED]. This system failure [REDACTED]. As a fire fighter, I quickly responded to the electrical outage [REDACTED], shutting off power to the unit. If we had not been home, [REDACTED] could have caused a fire in the house, given the proximity of the unit to my home. The unit is located directly under the wooden eve of the house. I took videos and photographs of the fire condition as well as photographs of the inside of the unit when it was inspected by the manufacturers representative.

The product, in the report: Goodman Home air conditioning unit Model GSX160601F Goodman Hi-efficient 5 ton with fan coil ASPT61D
Outside unit of Air conditioner (Goodman model GSX160601F with fan coil ASPT61D) accumulated water and rotting leaves inside housing over the winter. This condition has persisted during the Spring months and up to the present time, creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes, potential Carriers of Lyme disease, West Nile virus, Zika and others in this area. The local installer (Elm Air Conditioning Corp) says there is no possible remedy; the representative’s exact words were “I would like an solution leading to world peace too”. The manufacturer points out that any attempt on my part to fix the problem would void the warranty. Representative suggested I find another local installer.
Nevertheless, I removed the top grill and cleaned out the rotting leaves and accumulated water with a wet-dry vacuum. As predicted water re accumulated with the next rain and has not dried up after 72 hours. I believe this condition represents a safety issue caused by the manufacturer’s failure to provide at least a few drainage holes in the bottom of the unit, and a service bulletin providing for annual cleaning of the unit.

The product, in the report: The unit is a Goodman Model # AWUF24051BA. Serial # 0802171982.
[REDACTED] – 9/7/19 – incident #[REDACTED] We responded to the report of a structure fire. Upon our arrival, there was no signs of fire present. We met with the homeowner who stated that they had gone out for a walk and came back to find a haze of smoke in the apartment and a burning smell. Command was established by Engine [REDACTED]. We entered the apartment and found a haze of smoke. The smoke smelled electrical in nature. We investigated and searched for signs of fire with the thermal imagining device. None were found. All units with the exception of Engine [REDACTED], Rescue [REDACTED] and Ladder [REDACTED] were cleared. Ladder [REDACTED] was given the assignment to check the apartment above. No one was home. Ladder [REDACTED] was then cleared at this point. No circuit breakers were tripped. We then checked the HVAC. We isolated the power at the breaker box first. Upon removal of the panel, we found a relay that had melted along with some melted wires. We attempted to make contact with a building representative, but could not. We advised the homeowner of our findings. [REDACTED] then advised me that a representative had called him back and was enroute to the scene. The representative did not give an ETA. Battalion [REDACTED] advised that we could clear the call after we ensured that the occupant would not turn the unit on again. We did so. There were no other problems found. The unit is a Goodman Model # AWUF24051BA. Serial # 0802171982.

The product, in the report: Air handler Goodman manufacturing Co., L.P. Model- AWUF36051AA Serial No.- 0604518070
[REDACTED] were dispatched to a residential structure fire at [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] arrived on scene and advised that nothing was showing. [REDACTED] assumed command and began investigations. We entered the apartment and noticed a smell similar to burning electrical wires but did not find any flames or smoke. We searched the apartment and found the electrical panel and noticed that none of the breakers had been tripped. At this time, I asked [REDACTED] to check the apartment below [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] didn’t find any evidence of fire or odors. At this time, [REDACTED] returned all units back to service with the exception of [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. During our investigation, we noticed that the thermostat did not have any power so we turned off the electrical breakers for the air handler and the air conditioner. We removed the panel on the air handler to access the electrical components and found melted wires and evidence of charring. I showed the residents what we had found and recommended that they contact their maintenance representative. I also told them to leave the breakers for the air handler and the air conditioner turned off and to have the repair person turn them back on after the system had been fixed. I asked the residents if they had any questions/concerns or if they wanted us to do anything else but they were comfortable with us clearing the call. [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED] returned to service.
