Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 11, 2026, sent to the company Sep 16, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 30, 2026
The product, in the report: Window air conditioner Color - white
New window air conditioners are a big safety hazard, in my opinion. I have read that they retain water which can be a big issue for mold. I believe the one I have has mold and has caused eye irritation. I do not remember older window air conditioners causing this issue. This is very bad!

First aid Made May 16, 2023, sent to the company May 17, 2023, published by CPSC Jun 1, 2023
The product, in the report: 6000 btu window air conditioner
Received cuts on two fingers simply by lifting air conditioner out of carton. Cooling fins at back of unit have no guard covering them and these fins are essentially thousands of small razor blades waiting for unsuspecting fingers.

The product, in the report: A GE zoneline PTAC. model #AZ65H09DBMW1. went into heating and could not be shut down, it reached 105 degrees , the only way to stop it was cut the power .the unit normal can produce up to 90 degrees max. we had 3 of theses do this. we have 107 total units.
in the last month we had 3 PTAC units run wild .when set to cooling they went into heat and exceeded the normal by getting up to 105 degrees. the only way it would stop is if the power was disconected.

No one hurt Made Aug 27, 2021, sent to the company Sep 16, 2021, published by CPSC Sep 30, 2021
The product, in the report: GE Portable Room Air Conditioner - Model Number APCD08JASWG1 - white
Purchased a GE portable air conditioner model number APCD08JASWG1 on 08/22/2021. On 08/27/2021, my home’s carbon monoxide detector went off with readings that exceeded 100 ppm. I then called the fire department - their meter read 240 ppm (I have fire department documentation to support this). They then ventilated the house in order to reduce the carbon monoxide levels and they along with a representative from the local gas distribution company stated that negative air pressure from the aforementioned portable air conditioning unit created negative pressure in my home that caused the extremely high ratings. This model is a single hose unit that was installed properly. My recommendation is that this product be removed from the market before someone dies as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

No one hurt Made Aug 1, 2020, sent to the company Sep 3, 2020, published by CPSC Sep 18, 2020
The product, in the report: GE window air conditioner Model AKQ06LZ
I bought a GE air condition model #AKQ06LZG1. The installation instructions make no sense. They refer to two different parts as the frame lock. On p. 12, they show installation of screws through the top frame of the air conditioner itself (for a vinyl window) as installing through the frame lock, but on p. 10, in the parts list, they show a small bracket called the lock frame. Which is it? Even worse, in frame 5, they show installation of the lock frame bracket for a wooden window at the bottom of the frame, through the window sill, which will be useless if someone raises the window sash and the unit begins to pivot back and fall from the second floor window. Also in frame 5, they change terminology again, and call it the support bracket. All in all, the instructions are just nonsense, when installation of an air conditioner in a second floor window is safety issue. When I call GE appliance I cannot get any assistance. I believe GE should be sanctioned and be required to update the installation instructions.

No one hurt Made Sep 29, 2011, sent to the company Oct 7, 2011, published by CPSC Oct 24, 2011
The product, in the report: GE Model# AEW10APH1 Window unit Air Conditioner
GE window unit air conditioner model#AEW10APH1 self destructed when the plastic motor mount bracket disentigrated, dropping the motor into the botton of the unit case sending the fan blades up at an agle such that they started beating themselves to pieces on the inside of the unit. My concern is the poor design and potential fire hazard. GE has been contacted but doesn’t seem concerned about the potential for fire hazard and wanted to send out an identical unit, which I don’t want in my home due to the possibility of it happening with another unit of the same design.
