No one hurt Made Jun 3, 2016, sent to the company Sep 16, 2016, published by CPSC Sep 30, 2016
The product, in the report: Window Air Conditioner
The caller and his wife were asleep May 14th, 2016 when they awakened to their bedroom filling with smoke then they saw smoke and fire outside their window. He identified that it was coming from the window air conditioner which was NOT in use at the time. He purchased the air condition at an estate sale in New Hampshire around mid July 2014. The caller got out of bed, unplugged the unit then the fire began dying down with smoke dissipating as he left his bedroom door closed after opening the windows then opened other windows in the home.
There are no injuries being reported.
The caller contacted the manufacturer by email sometime around the last week in May 2016 thinking at the time that his son in law had thrown the unit away but then discovered he had not so he contacted the manufacturer a second time to inform them that it was still in his possession.
He is a volunteer fire fighter himself and has asked that CPSC investigate this unit much due to it NOT being in use at the time of the fire.
