The product, in the report: Arctic Air Evaporative Cooler, small air conditioner.

I ordered two Arctic Air Evaporative Air Coolers from getpolaire.com on July 9th 2020. The first box arrived on July 22 and the package was slightly damaged on one corner. I opened the box the next day and I followed the instructions to plug the unit into the electrical wall socket, then I filled it with water. I turned it on and it worked to cool the room. However, after about 15 minutes I noticed it was leaking water from the bottom. The plug in is close to the bottom so I had some concerns that this could be a shock hazard. I unplugged the unit and put it in the sink to finish draining. I thought it was possible that the post office may have damaged the item because the corner looked like it got dragged on a conveyor belt. Less than a week later I received the second box and once again the unit was leaking water. The second package was not damaged so I was convinced that this is an unsafe product. They have a ridiculous return policy that I received on the email they sent me that says a product has to be returned unopened within 10 days. When I told [REDACTED] bank about this they said they would dispute the charges because the product is leaking water. On the instruction pamphlet is says that the unit cannot be tilted because it could leak. But neither unit was tilted or moved. Regardless of the pending outcome of my complaint to my bank, I still feel obligated to report what I witnessed because the plug in to the unit is very close to the bottom, where leaking water could touch the plug in. This is a poor design.

The product, in the report: My sister and I purchased 2 of the Arctic Air Deluxe Evaporative Air Cooler from “As Seen on TV” online. These are made by OnTel Products Corp. 21 Law Dr. Fairfield, NJ 07004 These were ordered on 04/23/2018 and delivered to us on 04/27/2018. The Coolers work great as far as cooling goes. My brother had purchased one several weeks before us and he loved his as well. He called me on Saturday May 26th to let me know that he had turned his on and smelled a mildew oder. When I got back into town on Monday evening I checked mine immediately and discovered that although I have only used mine 4 to 5 times since getting it there was some mold inside mine. I checked my sister’s today and hers has much more mold in it than mine does. I have a call placed to OnTel and am waiting for a return call from them. I am sending these two units back and getting a complete refund. As much as we like them it is not worth risking our health breathing this mold.
