How badly anyone was hurt

  • No one hurt 1 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 18, 2012, sent to the company Jul 2, 2012, published by CPSC Jul 17, 2012

The product, in the report: Range ventilation hood with halogen lights.

The smoke ventilation hood is over a cooktop. It has two halogen lights in the center to illuminate the cooking area. Grease collected above the filters and the lights and dripped over an extended period of time onto one of the light sockets. Eventually, one socket abruptly “blew” with a flash. Upon examination, the bracket, socket, and bulb base were coated with black grease. The manufacturer (after a few false starts) sent me the 2-bulb light panel assembly. When I replaced it, I noticed that that the other socket/bulb also had burnt wires, although it was still operative. It appeared that grease was collecting and liquifying above the sockets/bulbs, perhaps due to the heat or inefficiency in removing the smoke and grease.

I noticed on their website that the company has a substantially similar produce with the lights located at the edges of the hood rather than in the center. A re-design?
