The product, in the report: Windmere electric fan MOD. WDF1200 120 V 60 Hz 0.35A Date Code: GP made in China
a Windmere box fan, 12” ?, which I have used..... 20 years or so (I cannot find the exact date on it), has a plastic circular strip that encompasses the two found “grills” that function as guards, front and back, and that holds the two grills together. It only has a simple bracket at the bottom where a screw holds the two ends of the strip together. I have taken good care of the fan.
This month, while the fan was off (thankfully) I heard a strange noise and found that the plastic strip had broken apart, near the screw bracket, perhaps from ... years of use. I immediately realized that had the fan been on, and had a toddler or pet walked up to the fan, that they could have been seriously injured or killed because the front “grill” simply fell off!
I do not see that Windmere is in business any longer.
But I ask that the CPSC investigate immediately all other fan grills and how they are held together. If others use such a cheap plastic circular strip to hold the grills in place, these must be recalled. I’m attaching photos.
