The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

  1. First aid

Made Mar 20, 2025, sent to the company Mar 26, 2025, published by CPSC Apr 9, 2025

The product, in the report: Thermador ventilation hood (1000cfm) Model PH36HS/02. Serial no. 921000034. Installed above a six burner gas range and oven about 36 inches wide, stainless steel housing and components.

A Thermador brand ventilation hood down left side spot light that illuminates the stove caught fire. The light was at times shutting itself off, however in early March 2025, the light started smoking as a fire had started in the housing. The source of the smoke was discovered to be a plastic bag with papers showing schematics had made contact with the housing, igniting the papers.

Thermador Customer service was contacted, although the regular warranty was expired. The customer service agent ( name is available) stated that it would not be a covered repair. A repair technician who viewed the situation said it was a design defect he had encountered where Thermador or Bosch glued the schematic paperwork inside the ventilation hood, and the adhesive would let go. It contacted the halogen light assembly and would cause a fire and damage the light assembly. An electrical fire could also occur.

This fire could ignite grease residue inside the ventilation hood that is ducted into the roof to an exhaust vent.

We were simply told to not use the lights and the light assembly would not be repaired by Thermador.

The product, in the report: Thermador ventilation hood

My Thermador ventilation baffles suddenly fell down Had it fallen a minute earlier, I would be in the ER with life threatening injuries. This is not the first time that this happened and this is a serious safety concern because the baffles have no safety switch that locks them in place.

The product, in the report: Thermador Hood Model #VCIN36GWS

I washed the stainless steel filters from my Thermador hood vent model #VCIN36GWS. When I was putting the filters back in the hood, I severely cut my left index finger. It as so deep, I could not get the flow of blood to stop. I went to the emergency room. The PA used [REDACTED] to close the wound, put a pressure bandage on it along with a splint. I called Thermador to tell them what happened. They had their Safety Department call me back three days later. I asked if they have any filters without the sharp edges or if the edges could be ground down. They said no. They said the edges are sharp and there isn’t any modification for it. No manufacturer should send out a product with edges as sharp as a knife!

  4. No one hurt

Made Jul 28, 2013, sent to the company Aug 5, 2013, published by CPSC Aug 19, 2013

The product, in the report: Kitchen ventilation fan, down draft, sits behind (but sold separately from) a five burner stove. Fan designed to raise and lower, and has three speeds - H, M, L.

I have a Thermador product with a melted circuit board that I am concerned could cause a fire if I continue to use it, and I have gotten nowhere with the company as far as acknowledging this risk and providing a remedy. Ultimately I would love if Thermador would remedy the situation, but more importantly I want others who own one of these or are contemplating the purchase of one. I am still uncertain if it is a defect in the circuit board or a design flaw in the product.

We moved into our home in 2007. Previous owner had just redone kitchen, went high end on appliances not knowing they were going to have job transfer.

Recently Thermador downdraft fan stopped working properly. Figured it was out of warranty by now, I took a look to see if it was a switch I could replace - discovered it had a circuit board. I was shocked to see that the circuit board had started to melt along with the wires leading to it. I called Thermador, said I knew it must be out of warranty by now - but it seemed like a defect in manufacturing or design flaw and a fire hazard.

After many calls, Thermador reluctantly agreed to send someone at their expense to “diagnose”. The technician informed me it happens all the time:.

I maintain for the amount of money spent on this type of product one should expect it to last longer than five or six years, and of all the appliances I have ever owned, it is the only one that has ever had a part that melted and posed a fire hazard|. Thermador refuses to make good - “it is out of warranty” and it is “normal wear and tear”.

I recorded my last conversation with Thermador! The audio, as well as pictures of the melted circuit board and wires and a video of it sparking and smoking can be found on you tube under the user [REDACTED]. I now have a stove in the middle of the kitchen with no ventilation;.

The consumer says the control panel caught on fire. He says no one was home and the unit was not in use at the time of the incident. The consumer says the last time it was used was Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred later that night. He says the inside of the unit is blackened and there are burn marks on the top through the outside. He contacted the manufacturer today 6-4-12 who is going to send out a service technician to diagnose the problem.
