No one hurt Made Nov 27, 2013, sent to the company Dec 6, 2013, published by CPSC Dec 20, 2013
The product, in the report: THE DEVICE IS THE RECEIVER FOR CONTROLLING THE FAN SPEED AND LIGHT LEVELS. IT IS INSERTED INTO THE FAN HOUSING.
MY KITCHEN CEILING FAN STARTED ON ITS OWN TO SPIN AS I WAS HAVING BREAKFAST. THEN THE LIGHT STARTED TO GO ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. THE FAN THEN SPED UP TO HIGH SPEED. THE REMOTE WALL SWITCH WOULD NOT SHUT IT DOWN AND THEN I STARTED TO SMELL BURING ELECTRICAL. I SHUT IT OFF AT THE BREAKER BOX AND THEN TOOK OFF THE FAN HOUSING. THE RHINE ELECTRONIC RECEIVER, MODEL #RC7067RC HAD STARTED MELTING ON THE SIDE WITH THE BLACK AND WHITE WIRES.(NOT ON THE SIDE WITH THE FOUR COLORED WIRES.)

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze ceiling fan remote control. Light level and fan speed are controlled by remote.
My ceiling fan remote control unit has a resistor that burned/melted the case and quit working. This unit is manufactured by RHINE (model UC 7067RC) and is used in many different brand ceiling fans. My online research has led the part number Harbor Breeze , [REDACTED] and many more. The unit is also available separately and could be added to other devices.
This heat and potential fire hazard could burn down homes.
