The product, in the report: Kenmore Microwave Oven and Electric Range

On Thursday, August 16th, 2018, I was cooking dinner on a Kenmore Electric Range (we have a Kenmore Electric Range/Microwave Oven Hood Combo). I had the fan from the microwave hood on to eliminate any water vapor. I noticed a glowing coming from inside the microwave and realized the glowing was flames. There was nothing inside and the only part that was in use was the fan. The flames grew, but I kept the door closed so that it could extinguish itself. I called the fire department. When they came out, they inspected the area and determined that it was not the wiring that was at issue. The recommended that we call out an electrician to take a closer look to confirm. The next day, an electrician came out. He inspected the microwave, the power cord, the outlet, and the sub panel. He confirmed the conclusion of the fire department - that the house’s wiring was not the issue.

The product, in the report: hood over the range

On 07/15/2011, the consumer said that her husband installed a hood over the range. On 12/15/2011, the consumer stated that the two powerful light bulbs in the hood burned out the switches to turn on the hood’s fan.

On 01/03/2011 the consumer hired an independent electrician to check her hood’s burned switch. The electrician told the consumer that the light bulbs used with this hood are too powerful and that over the time, they will burn the switch again.

The consumer said that the light bulbs burned the switch in less than six months. The consumer is concerned about the fire hazard involved with the hood’s light bulbs.

The consumer called and explained the incident to a manufacturer’s rep., (name unknown), who told him that they could send a service technician to his house, but the consumer would have pay $120.00 plus parts. The consumer declined that offer, because he already had the unit examined by an electrician. The mfr’s rep. did not offer anything else to the consumer.

    There were no injuries.
