The product, in the report: Hunter Ceiling Fan, model # 54208
I have two Hunter Ceiling Fans (model # 54208). The blades on this model of fan are ONLY held in place by a rubber grommet pushed onto a post. There is no screw or retaining nut on the post to ensure the blades remain firmly attached. After about 2-2.5 years of use, the blades are coming loose. This is a dangerous design, as the use of the fans puts downward pressure on the blades--which, then, are pushed off the posts. Had I not noticed this, the blades would shortly have come off while the fan was running. This is a highly dangerous condition, as the blades would be thrown across the room at great force--endangering anyone in the room and damaging property.

First aid Made Jul 21, 2022, sent to the company Jul 26, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 9, 2022
The product, in the report: Product: Ristrello with Light 44 inch Model Number: 50189 Purchase Date: 07/08/2022
I purchased a Hunter Ceiling fan - Product: Ristrello with Light 44 inch Model Number: 50189 Purchase Date: 07/08/2022 The product is advertised to produce 20% more wind compared to the competition and specifies an 8’ ceiling height mount, which I have. The product works as advertised, however, last night I went to remove a shirt and nearly had two fingers amputated. I do have lacerations and bruises. I have contacted the manufacturer in request of a protective cage around the blades, which they do not offer. This product does not meet basic safety protocol when installed as their provided instructions specify. This is a product liability that their phone support denies. I make this submission to you before someone becomes seriously injured. The unit needs either: A higher specification for mounting to ceiling, a protective cage, or a integrated clutch / sensor to prevent finger amputation. A 6’ tall individual has a reach beyond 7’, and most others do as well. The increased power of this fan makes a minor mishap critically dangerous.

The product, in the report: Hunter Fan Co Original Ceiling Fan with Light Model 22285-001
My wife, two daughters (23 month old and 7 weeks old), and mother-in-law were sitting in the living room at my mother-in-laws house when all of a sudden the entire Hunter ceiling fan fell straight out of the fan box and fan attachment straight on the floor, shattering broken glass all over and oil (the older fan motors have oil in them). Thankfully, my oldest daughter who was playing in the room was on the couch at that moment, and my newborn daughter was in my wife’s arms. They would have easily been killed given the weight of this fan and height it dropped from. It appears that the old fan attachments are much different than what is sold today (ball support type), and only involves a threaded shaft screwed into a nut with a small set screw tightened into the side to prevent it from loosening due to the torque of the spinning fan. I believe that all of these fan types should be recalled or advertised by the company to replace as they are very prone to faulty installation and have a poor safety design.

The product, in the report: 52 inch hunter ceiling fan with light kit
i have a hunter ceiling fan that is about 5 years old.. it was installed by an electrician to ensure it was properly installed. Two nights ago after I went to bed I heard an awful crash, went out to the dinning room and found the fan motor, fan blades and light kit on the floor..of course the lights were broken and the fan blades don’t look to good... interesting that the wires just pulled straight out of the ceiling mount and the rest stayed attached to the ceiling... no damage up there. seems the motor unscrewed itself and that is what caused it to drop to the floor. no warning, no noise, no swaying.. nothing to indicate there was a problem. if someone had been under that sitting at the table they could have been gravely injured or worse.

The product, in the report: Ceiling fan with lights
We have a 6 yr old Hunter ceiling fan model 23903. It has three lights with glass globes. One of the glass globes fell off hitting our daughter in the head (the fan wasn’t even running). It shattered the bulb as it fell. We had to pick bulb glass out of her hair. Thankfully, she wasn’t cut by it.
Each globe is held on by a ‘globe assembly nut’ -- a 2” diameter threaded flange that screws onto the threaded plastic bulb socket while the globe is held in place. I assumed the nut had come loose. I found that the nut could be slipped over the threaded light socket with minimal pressure and without turning the nut, as if the threads were stripped, but they weren’t. The nuts on the other two globes are the same way. I can grab each nut and pull it right off the threaded light socket. Of course I have no clue about whether they ever fit properly or the nuts had expanded or the plastic light sockets had shrunk. Appropriate 60W bulbs had been used.
All Hunter fans that I now see have the globes retained by three radial thumb screws. My guess is that they were all changed to correct the design flaw. I contacted Hunter regarding a revised light assembly to replace my original one, and they said they don’t have any of the newer design that would fit -- though, aside from the thumb screws, they look the same. Newer model 52044 appears nearly identical.

The product, in the report: Fan remote controller
Hunter All-Fan Control (model 27185, s/n 277076) failed while not being used. I had this device installed in a fan canopy to control the fan and light kit via a remote controller mounted on the was switch. On 8/24/16, I returned home from being away for a week, when entering, I noticed a smell of burnt electronics when entering the kitchen (where the device is installed). A short time later, my wife tried to turn on the fan but neither the fan nor light would work, either with the remote or directly with the switches on the fan or light. I removed power from the circuit and disassembled the fan and found the remote control unit badly burned and melted. During the week I was away, there were no signs of a lightning strike to my home nor was there a loss of power. I contacted Hunter Fan but they have not been very helpful in trying to figure out what happened. All they have done is offer to replace the device. I have the failed device but they have shown no interest in having it returned for a failure investigation.

The product, in the report: Hunter Ridgefield ceiling fan (51028) (http://www.hunterfan.com/Ceiling-Fans/Ridgefield?ModelNumber=51028) Hunter Meridale ceiling fan (53306) (http://www.hunterfan.com/Ceiling-Fans/Meridale?ModelNumber=53306)
I recently purchased Hunter brand ceiling fans from my local Lowe’s store and after installation, the product is emitting a smoky/electrical smell/odor whenever the fan is turned on. This odor is making my pregnant wife and I dizzy and we fear there may be health hazards. I called Hunter’s customer support line and the gentleman on the phone told me that they get this call often. Their recommendation is to run the fan on high for 24 hours to “burn off” the chemical used to “seal the motor.” This is very concerning because there is a definite physiological effect on humans from exposure to this chemical as it is “burned off.” I worry about neurological damage or long-term side effects.

The product, in the report: Hunter Litex Fans 52” ceiling fan model # E-BDB52MWW5BC4. White finish with 5 fan blades and 4 socket light kit.
Product is a Hunter Litex Fans 52” ceiling fan model # E-BDB52MWW5BC4. I purchased this product on 8/20/2009 from Lowes. I installed the fan with the included 4-socket light kit in our daughter’s bedroom soon after purchase. The unit has been in typical residential use since then.
About 3 days ago we smelled an odor that seemed electrical in origin. We localized the odor to this ceiling fan. Only the light was in use at the time. The fan motor has not been used for quite some time. We observed that turning off the light reduced the odor somewhat. Today I removed the light kit and discovered an internal component that apparently got hot enough to melt the plastic housing. This is the likely source of the odor.
At the time of failure only 3 of the 4 light sockets contained a light bulb. Each bulb is 40W incandescent type bulb with candelabra base (within the load limits specified per product labeling).
There are obvious concerns here of a RISK OF FIRE involving this product.
I have documented the incidents with photographs and I still have the faulty product.

The product, in the report: Hunter Outdoor Ceiling Fan. Model # 21318, Captive 52”
I purchased multiple Hunter Captiva 52” outdoor ceiling fans, Model # 21318 about 3 years ago. They have had very little use, but this past weekend 2 blades broke off of one of the fans, and went flying like missiles across my porch. Upon inspection, I found more blades cracked across where the mounting screws attached the blades to the fan bracket.
I looked up the fan on the Hunter web site, and found where multiple people have had this same problem. One individual said he had filed a complaint with you, and suggested others do the same. Hunter is not acknowledging the problem, and continues to sell the fan as is. Of course, they were happy to sell me more blades. One set cost $60, plus tax and shipping. So much for the “lifetime” warranty.
This is a danger to everyone that has purchased this fan over the last several years. Especially children. Please follow up with them on this!
Thank you in advance for your help with this,
Respectfully,
[REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Ceiling Fan
The caller stated that while the fan was in use, the metal arm that connects the fan blade to the base of the fan snapped in half. The fan blade projected across the room. Fortunately no one was hit because this could have caused serious injuries. The blade landed against the drapery on the wall.
My son [REDACTED] (16), was in the bed at the time.
6/2012 The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed that someone would contact her. 7/9/12 The caller contacted the manufacturer again and she was informed that the fan would be replaced but that the incident was rare and there was nothing else that could be done. The caller feels that the failure of the fan is a safety hazard and should be investigated.

The product, in the report: Approximately 52” Outdoor Ceiling Fan
Caller is reporting that with no warning on June 30th, 2012 his approximately 52” in diameter ceiling fan came apart and fell to the floor in the middle of the night. Caller estimates the fan to weigh approximately 25 lbs.
The fan did not fall with the base but rather came apart and fell, leaving wires dangling that then shorted out and blew the breakers.
The fan fell very close by the place his one year old grandchild normally sits.
It is now a necccesary for caller to contact an electrician to cap off the live electrical wires.
If repair and replacement takes place before compliance can get back with consumer then he would ask for reimbursement of repair and replacement.

The product, in the report: Ceiling fan
On June 15,2011, consumer asked me to repair her lifetime warranty three year old Hunter Ceiling Fan model number 21580-380. I removed the fan electrical junction box and after being disassemble, I noticed a four square inch carbon footprint from an electrical fire inside the box. After further inspection I identified the cause of the fire resulted from a hot wire being pinched between the housing and directional switch during the manufacturing process. Latent operational vibration then caused the hot wire to short to the housing. On notification June 17,2011, Hunter Fan Company Technical Support (7130 GoodlettFarms Parkway: Memphis, TN 38016,888-830-1326), advised me to send the fan electrical box to Hunter Technical Support which I did on June 20, 2011. Eight additional communications with this company have been unsuccessful in resolving this matter.
