The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Twin Breeze II 74-inch oil-rubbed bronze indoor/outdoor ceiling fan
I have a Harbor Breeze Twin Breeze II 74-inch ceiling fan over my bed. We run it at night. I was awakened by a loud noise and realized the fan was shaking and rattling. After turning it off, I noticed one of the blades had snapped off and was sent flying toward my bed. It landed on the floor, thankfully, and not on my head, which it was next to. The end of the metal that had snapped off was sharp and pointed. It could have killed me!

No incident, no one hurt Made Jun 27, 2024, sent to the company Jul 2, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 17, 2024
The product, in the report: The fan is 5 blade model with a “boob light” glass housing the lights under than main assembly and fans. Within the “boob” are two small diameter bulb mounts. The glass is “tipped” with a silver brushed metal cap that screws into the stem holding the lights and holds a silver brushed “cap” with holes in it to pass through the pull cords and the mounting stem. The main assembly is a circular brushed (silver) metal housing that hangs “below” the ceiling, shaped more or less like a wheel of cheese. The assembly connects to the fan mount box via a bolt and pin in a thick “stem” that hides the mounting hardware within a decorative (again) brushed silver shroud. The main assembly lists the following (potential) model numbers on stickers on top of the unit: D758FT02 GLN60BNK5CR <- this one is likely the model number as it also lists a phone number to contact for customer support that is also listed on Harbor Breeze’s website.
I observed that our Harbor Breeze model fan was “listing” somewhat. Upon scaling a ladder and removing the decorative shroud around the “fan box” in the ceiling I observed that the fan had “slipped” one of its mounts in the mounting bracket over years of usage. I am unsure if the fan was improperly installed (a washer or screw with a wider head would have prevented the issue) or if the “slipping” through the mounting bracket was due to wear on the bracket from the screw during regular use. The entire fan assembly disengaged from the ceiling when I touched the mounting bracket. Had I not been up a ladder and waiting for it someone could have been killed.
This is a Harbor Breeze fan manufactured sometime between 2006 (year home was built) and 2017 (year we purchased the home).
This was used about as typically as a fan could be. We did observe that it had a “rock” to it when operating shortly after moving in, but did not thing anything of it.
No injures thankfully, but it could have easily killed our toddler or infant if they had been under it when it fell.

No incident, no one hurt Made Mar 1, 2024, sent to the company Mar 8, 2024, published by CPSC Mar 22, 2024
The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Henderson 60 matte black integrated led ceiling fan with light and remote (10 blades) sold only at lowes
My son, his friend and I had just returned to my home. I went in the bedroom to change and my son had flipped on the light/fan using the light switch on the wall and his friend sat down in the recliner chair. My son walked over to his Christmas presents that were stacked next to the window and a few minutes later the 60 Ceiling fan fell from the ceiling (12 ceiling). It had been installed for less than 2 years. The fan was set on speed 3 previously and had not been changed. It shattered the glove/lights on the fan when it fell. When cleaning up all the glass and moving the fall n fan I noticed that it damaged my hardwood floor. After being inspected it was determined that the mounting bracket had failed (it had warped and expanded letting the ball joint slip through. Also, the safety cable that should have held the fan in event of falling had snapped. I contacted the manufacturer after learning this but keep getting the run around with them saying it is a Lowes problem and not theirs. When I talk to Lowes they say it is a harbor breeze problem- which I agree.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze 48-inch Santa Ana Ceiling Fan, model LP8294
In the middle of the night the fan made a loud noise, and became unbalanced. Following the noise the fan was turned off for the rest of the night. The next morning my wife turned it back on to identify the source of the noise, and one of the fan blades came out flying out of its bracket, nearly heating her and our service animal. The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze TILGHMAN Ceiling Fan purchased at Lowe’s in May 2020.
Harbor Breeze TILGHMAN outdoor ceiling fan purchased at Lowe’s in May 2020, Model# WCK52LMW5N. This Spring we attempted to use the fan but the screws were very loose and the blades were nearly falling off; the fan was very noisy and we avoided using it. My daughter has the same fan and the blades did actually fall off of her fan! My husband found that the screws were too short and didn’t stay tight. He replaced them with a hex head longer screw to keep the blades securely in place. I am fortunate that my husband is very handy, but for someone else, turning on the fan and the blades flying off could be a major hazard and cause injury.

The product, in the report: HarborBreeze Ceiling Fan brushed nickel finish and maybe cherry wood blades. It was installed by the electrician when our house was built in 2004.
We purchased a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan when our home was being built in 2004. On April 5, 2023 at around 3:00 am the support bracket that holds the fan to the ceiling beam snapped and the fan which was on at the time, fell on our bed while we were sleeping. We are unharmed, but it was a horrifying experience and could have been much worse.

No one hurt Made Nov 14, 2022, sent to the company Dec 9, 2022, published by CPSC Dec 23, 2022
The product, in the report: 52” ceiling fan, with 5 blades
Two or three fan blades detached from the ceiling fan unexpectedly. This initially happened approximately 8 months ago. The consumer called the brand name company and they sent him replacement blades.
However, 2 of the replacement blades have broken, during use, and detached from the fan.
The consumer will try to contact the firm about this latest issue and see how they respond.
There was no property damage to the home outside of the fan.
The blades appear to be made of plastic. However, the metal bracket, on the blade, that connects it to the fan’s motor, is what actually breaks.
The consumer believes that this is an incident, which could severely injure a person.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze fan model LP8294. Nickel finish and brown “wooden” blades.
The fan we use in our bedroom turned into a weapon. Thankfully, we were in another room when it happened. We heard a number of large bangs. It turns out, one of the two blades tore off, flew into the ceiling, shot across the bed, and onto a nightstand six feet away. This was Harbor Breeze fan model LP8294. The product was being used normally, securely attached to the ceiling and on max speed with the incident occurred. Thankfully, no injuries occurred. There was some wall/ceiling damage in the bedroom.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze (Saratoga 60” Model #00798, Item #0464472) ceiling fan, brown
I have a Harbor Breeze (Saratoga 60” Model #00798, Item #0464472) ceiling fan that was purchased at Lowe’s in Jonesborough, Tennessee 2-3 years ago. When running at the highest speed setting, a fan blade broke off (the metal bracket connecting the fan to the base snapped) and hit my living room wall just above my head damaging the wall and falling directly on me. The piece of the blade where it snapped is sharp. I reached out to Harbor Breeze on/around February 5, 2021 and was told the manufacturer would be in touch within 48 hours. After a couple of weeks without receiving contact via phone, email or physical mail, I contacted Harbor Breeze again. I was told that due to COVID-19, there may be a slight delay in reaching out to me about replacing the fan. It is now April 16, 2021, and I have not received communication. I have also been in contact with the Lowe’s where the fan was purchased (this fan was replaced around 1 month after a fan of the same type did the SAME THING in which one blade broke from the bracket while in motion). My local Lowe’s told me to reach back out to Harbor Breeze. Since I haven’t received contact from Harbor Breeze or the manufacturer (after calling I am unclear what company is the actual manufacturer as customer service was not clear), I am reaching out to the CPSC for help. My reference number with Harbor Breeze customer service is [REDACTED].

I have 5 Harbor Breeze celera ceiling fans on my porches. The brackets that hold the fan blades keep breaking and a blade flys through the air. I have had to order replacement brackets at least 4 times. So far a blade has not hit anyone, but it is very dangerous. Someone could be decapitated.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan. No lighting, blades are not made of wood. 5 blade unit. Model LP8079
We purchased a home 3 years ago. There was a Harbor Breeze fan mounted in the family room installed by the previous owners. We use it periodically, no more than 20-30 times a year. We have used it once in the week prior to the event. Yesterday, as I was walking underneath it, it fell from the ceiling and hit me on my right side. I grabbed it and slowed the fall. I injured my back slightly and it did damage to a hardwood table. Upon inspection of the mounting bracket, it was clear that there was a crack at a week spot where a drilled hole was. As the fan fits into this bracket and is allowed to move freely (gravity holds in place) the weight of the fan caused the bracket to pull apart at the crack allowing the fan to fall to the ground.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Santa Ana Ceiling Fan MODEL LP8294 DATE CODE 0613
Harbor Breeze Santa Ana Ceiling Fan bought at Lowe’s lost a fan blade. I realize this fan was on recall, however my date code 0613 was not listed. It threw a fan blade today, which flew and hit the wall making two dents. Luckily, no one was injured during this incident. If they had listed my date code, this incident would not have happened. I am worried that it might have damaged the actual fan itself because it was wobbling so bad. Also, will they pay for repairs of the wall? I filled out the recall form on Fanamation’s website today, as well.

The product, in the report: Ceiling Fan with 2 blades
The consumer had 2 of the fans, which may be part of the recall.
(approx.. 3/18/2020): The consumer received a recall notice from CPSC and she sent the firm an email to participate in the recall. The consumer provided her model numbers and pictures of the fans, but did not have the UPC codes or her sales receipt.
3/24/2020: The consumer received an email response from the firm. Their rep. wrote that the pictures she provided could have been taken from google, and they declined to provide her with the recall remedy.
The consumer went to the dealer and asked if they could provide receipts for her purchase, but they told her that do not keep receipts that far back.
1. The consumer purchased both fans at the same exact time (2015) and her son-in-law installed them. 2. Within the first year of owning the fans, the consumer was hit on her left shoulder by one of the blades that broke away from the fixture. The consumer was sitting down watching TV, when a fan began making a horrible noise. Seconds later, one of the 2 blades broke apart and hit the consumer. She estimates that the fan may have been on the “medium” setting. The fan had 2 blades, which were secured to the fan with screws. The bracket that held the blade, broke in half, which allowed the incident to occur. The consumer (approx. [REDACTED] at the time) needed to get 6 sutures on her shoulder. The consumer never reported the incident to anyone.
The consumer went back to the retailer and purchased a different fan, with 4 blades, which was manufactured by a different company.
The son-in-law, checked the 2nd fan after that incident and saw stress cracks on parts of it. Therefore, the consumer replaced that fan as well, with a different manufacturer’s fan.
The consumer discarded both fans into the trash, but she took pictures of the broken fan.
Also, I would like to include in writing that after I contacted you the company called me threatened me with Police and whatever need to be done to shut me and my husband up.

One evening, about 2 months ago, as I was sleeping in my bed with my 2 little Shih Tzus and, as normal, my ceiling fan (Harbor Breeze 48-inch Santa Ana Ceiling Fan, model LP8294LBN, UPC code 840506599178) running, I awoke to a horrible sound when a blade came flying across the room. The fan continued to run (on high speed) with an unbelievable wobble -- since it now only had one blade. I immediately turned the fan off. Luckily, the blade missed hitting either me or my pups; however, it made a terrible gouge in my wall. Upon examination the next morning, the blade did not simply come unattached from the fan, the metal arm which holds the blade to the fan completely sheared into two pieces. I do not want new arms to this horrible fan. It has been taken down. I cannot afford a new fan.

On November 20, 2016 my harbor breeze Santa Ana ceiling fan was running and one blade flew off and hit the middle of my tv screen. This fan was purchased around January 2015 at Lowe’s in Johnstown pa. I did not contact the manufacturer regarding this because we had thought that it was a result of improper installation and did not realize it was an actual issue with the product from the manufacturer. The tv was no longer usable and had to be replaced. It was a 55 inch hisense tv that we replaced with a 55 inch philips tv for $298 plus $26 protection plan as well as taxes. Since this is an issue caused by the manufacturer I believe that they should be at fault for the replacement value of the tv.

Fan blade broke from the bracket arm and went flying across the room landed on a laptop and hitting the wall before landing on the floor. Broke the screen of the closed laptop but Blessed nobody was in the room at the time. Had fan for 2 years. After reading the reviews on the product after we purchased the fan we seen a lot of the same has happened to others. Found no recalls on this product and Lowes continues to sell the product. Right now we are working with Lowes to resolve this issue. Before someone gets killed over this fan I think it needs to have a recall or something. Its dangerous. I don’t know how fast it was going but my guess would be 40 to 60 mph at least because the fan was on high at the time. Thats enough to hurt someone real bad. Even killing someone at that rate of speed.

We have two Harbor Breeze Outdoor Ceiling fans that were installed inside our carport. The model number is WCK52MWW5NB or WCK52MWW5P. We purchased the fans in 2012 and had them installed. Around one year late on a slightly windy day two of the metal arm mounts broke, the blades fell down onto our truck causing a dent and gash. The fans were not on at the time the blades broke. Contacted Harbor Breeze regarding issue, they sent us to Lowe’s to get two new blades. A few weeks ago we had the same issue with the other fan - one blade popped off and through it against the house. Contacted Harbor Breeze they sent a complete set of metal arms for that fan. The day we received the box of replacement arms the other fan had two metal arms to pop into and through the blades about 25 ft, into the yard. If a person had been standing there they could have been severely injured or killed. The metal arms have all popped at basically the same spot. They are made from a pot ash type material.

The consumer plans on keeping her ceiling fan for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.
The consumer indicates that this ceiling fan is a replacement to an original fan that the Manufacturer provided free of charge because one of its blades broke off too.

The product, in the report: Ceiling Fan with light, four blades, 42 inch diameter, indoor, flush mount. Note: Label lists manufacturer as: Hong Kong China Electric Appliance Manufacturer Co. Ltd.
FIRE HAZARD! - When the ceiling fan was turned on at the wall switch a loud pop was heard. The circuit breaker was found in the tripped position. The circuit breaker was reset and the wall switch was turned back on. The ceiling fan blades rotated but the light did not illuminate. The voltage at the light bulb socket measured 75 vac.
The metal cap on the metal switch housing was removed. Soot was observed on the wiring and the inside housing surfaces. The insulation on the black wire to the light bulb was indented, partially melted, and ruptured. On the cap, to which the light bulb socket bracket attaches, small metal beads and a pit, indicative of arcing, were observed. It was also observed that the crimp on the bracket, which attaches to the housing cap, contained sharp edges. The sharp edges of the bracket along with the tight packing of the wires inside the housing resulted in the abrading of the wire insulation. As a result bare wire contacted the bracket crimp resulting in arcing and tripping of the circuit breaker.
An identical fan purchased at the same time and used in another room was disassembled and the same sharp edges were observed on the bracket crimp. The sharp edges on the bracket crimp were created during the manufacturing process. The electrical short was caused by the manufacturer making a defective crimp on the bracket.
This is a serious problem and could have resulted in a fire.

The product, in the report: Ceiling fan with light kit
Home we purchased in 2012 has various harbor breeze ceiling fans throughout the house, The first year we moved in we had a ceiling fan burned out and we replaced it without a thought.
Yesterday 09-30-2014 we had another fan burn out that made the entire house smell like electrical wire burning and filled the entire room with smoke.
I removed the fan to replace it and found that the wattage limiter had burned the wires and started to melt.
Again I replaced the fan with a harbor breeze unit from Lowes.
My concern is if we keep having lights burn out our home could catch on fire while we arent home.
Is there a recall on their fans or is there anything they are doing to replace the burned out fans ?

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Armitage 42” Ceiling Fan Model # 40016 Item # 0373684
Ceiling fan had been running at high speed when my roommate reported hearing a “breaking noise” and hearing something falling to the floor. She saw the fan blade on the floor (directly under the fan, a straight drop) and the remaining three still spinning, but wobbling. The fan blade did not hit her or anything else in the room. I saw that the bracket holding the fan to the rotor had snapped. I turned off the fan and did not see any cracks in the other brackets.
The customer service representative I called within a week of the incident was really unhelpful. According to the rep, all she can do is sell me another part ($5 for part, $7 for shipping). The company takes no responsibility whatsoever, even when I pointed out that this was a very dangerous situation. The rep was really unmoved and completely unconcerned that someone could have been badly hurt. She denied that there have been any other incidents like this.
All the rep wanted to do was sell me a replacement part, and kept denying any responsibility, saying that the fan was not covered under any warranty. I mentioned the Limited Warranty listed in the manual and the rep said since the fan wasn’t broken when I got it, and since I installed it, Lowe’s is also not responsible (since apparently I am assumed to have installed it incorrectly). I even got further clarification that if I had purchased a “lemon” and it had broken a day after I got it, the company would still refuse to replace the fan. (though honestly, I don’t think I would want to replace a flawed product with another flawed product!)

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Bellevue Ceiling Fan, white matte, 44,” has drop option, but was installed flush to ceiling Item # 0096982 Model # E-BE44MWW5C
Our Harbor Breeze ceiling fan was installed by a professional electrician in September 2012 (purchased August 2012), but has not been used very often (it has maybe been on between 10 and 20 times total), because the nursery was not in use until our baby was born and sleeping in his own room, and the fan was not needed during the winter. The fan/light is connected to a wall switch which controls the light, and the fan speed is controlled with a pull chain. The fan and light have worked well since installation, with no noise or wobbling when the fan was in use.
Late in the evening on June 25, 2014, I went to my infant son’s nursery to prepare the room for the night by turning on the monitor and turning on the fan. Because my son had fallen asleep in another room, I went upstairs without him in my arms, which is normally not the case, so I could turn the light/fan on, then turn the light off with the pull chain to avoid waking him with the bright light. With the light still on, I pulled the chain once for the fan, which put it at high speed. After waiting a second, I pulled the chain again to reduce the fan to medium speed. With the second pull, the fan, still spinning, can tumbling out of the ceiling onto my head. I was able to protect my face from the spinning blades and light kit with my hand, and am so grateful I was not holding my son and that he was not in his crib to be hit by the falling debris.
The fan stayed connected to the electric wires in the ceiling, but I was able to turn the wall switch off and eventually prop the ceiling fan on a ladder until an electrician could come to remove it. We found the metal mounting bracket had snapped and a piece of it was on the floor. Our electrician said he had never seen anything like it in 30 years. I called the company and they said they would send a replacement part. I asked if there were any recalls for this, as a newish fan should not have parts that break in such a dangerous way. I was told no and that it is often because electricians use old mounting brackets when installing new fans. I can attest this was NOT the case for us, as I was present for the installation and know all parts were new and from the fan box. I told the customer services representative that we were lucky there were no more serious injuries than the very minor injury to my finger when deflecting the falling fan and encouraged them to investigate the mounting bracket. To date, I have not been contacted for further information.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Clearwater ceiling fan 3578978
I purchased a Harbor Breeze Clearwater (Item #3578978) ceiling fan from Lowes. I had it installed by a certified master electrician.
After mounting the fan and checking everything he left the sun room we are having built. Approximately one hour later my contractor entered the sun room and noticed an electrical burning smell and saw the sparks coming from the fan motor.
He immediately turned the switch off. If he had not gone into the room we very likely would have had a house fire.
Once the fan cooled he dismounted the fan. I returned it to Lowes this morning for a refund and made them aware of the issue.

The product, in the report: 52” Edenton Aged Pewter Fan (Harbor Breeze - Hunter)
I purchased 3 Harbor Breeze (Hunter) fans in June 2010 from Lowe’s. About 5 months ago I had one of the fans blow out. I turned the light on and right away I could smell electrical burning and then a loud pop and all the light bulbs filled with smoke. We don’t use that fan much so we hadn’t done anything about. Then on October 20, 2013, we had a similar incident with another fan but this time the lights actually flixered on and off and made a buzzing sound before the loud pop and smoke coming from fan. Once again electrical burning was smelled right away. I had an electrician over to check out the fans and what he found was scary. He showed me Part No. 98480-02 in both fans which had been fried. The part inside of these had been flattened and still smells like electrical burns. He stated that I was extremely lucky that my house didn’t catch fire from this. I also have a third fan that I bought at the same time which hasn’t had any issues but I am just waiting. This is a fire hazard and since my incident I have actually done research and found a LOT of problems with this part.

The product, in the report: Harbor breeze white ceiling fan with 3 lights. Purchased at lowes. Model number CAW42MWW5LKL
Last night one of the three identical ceiling fans that I have malfunctioned. A blade snapped off at the metal arm, causing a sharp heavy piece of fan to land on my child’s bed. I have three of these fans and am now going to have to replace them because I am NOT going to put my children in danger of being sliced or bruised in the night. I contacted Lowes, who sent me to harbor breeze and then they sent me to litex fans who manufactures the product. They were very unresponsive and just wanted to send me replacement parts which would be identical to the one that snapped off and broke. I am not interested in replacing those parts with new ones because they have the potential to break that easily as well. I am confident the company will not report this as they acted as if it was not a big deal.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze 74” Twin Breeze
8/3/2013 I purchased a Harbor Breeze 74” Twin Breeze from Lowes in late 2012 . It is the older model with the solid wooden fan blades. We have it installed in our living room and this morning while we were in the family room we heard this terrible noise and a loud crash. The bracket that holds the fan blade to the motor broke and the fan blade came flying off of the fan. Luckily it just missed my wife by inches, otherwise it could have really injured her. I am writing you to make you aware of a possible manufacturing default and a safety issue on the fan blade bracket. I have the bracket and could return it to you if you would like, so that you can investigate further.

The product, in the report: Harbor breeze crosswinds ceiling fan with light kit
Installed a ceiling fan by a licensed electrician in a home addition. Started using the fixture on 1/8/2013. On 2/4/2013 Noticed there were two bulbs that appeared to be burnt out. Upon further inspection they appeared to be operating on a reduced voltage and were very dim.
I proceeded to change the lightbulbs and the lights started to flash in a weird pattern and made an arching noise from the fixture. To stop the flashing I moved a bulb, and the unit sounded like it was arching a little louder which then burnt out the fan motor.
The unit is unsafe and I am lucky I was not electrocuted when handling the metal parts of the fixture. Fan was harbor breeze item number 44622. Crosswinds ceiling fan with light kit installed

The pot metal bracket that held the ceiling fan broke and the ceiling fan came crashing to the floor. It fell about 11 feet to the floor. My wife usually sits right there so she can watch the TV. Thank God no one was in the Den or they would have been killed. The metal bracket broke where the company had drilled a hole and it made that spot on the bracket weak.

The product, in the report: Harbor Breeze Calera 52 inch ceiling fan
I bought a Harbor Breeze Calera 52 inch ceiling fan from Lowes Home Improvement on North Perkins Rd in Memphis Tn. on April 5 2012. The fan was running on high last night and one of the blades broke from where it was attached near the fan motor. It is a defect in the product. The blade went flying though the room crashing hard near the wall. It could have been very bad if it hit someone. I believe this is a very dangerous product and needs to be investigated whether it was an isolated incident or has something to do with a design flaw. I have never had a ceiling fan blade fly off before. The company did not want to give me my money back. They tried to give us a new piece to the fan blade which my husband took. I sent my husband back to the store to get our money back. I refused to have that fan flying over my head again. After he got ugly with them they gave us our money back. I still think this should be investigated. If you need pictures of the broken piece let me know I will send them.

While sitting in th living room of our home talking with my wife, the ceiling fan started shaking violently. Within a few seconds, one of the blades flew off the fan and nearly struck our 3 year old son that was playing on the floor with his cars. Luckily, our son was not harmed, but it could have struck any of the 3 of us in the room. Upon inspection of the blade and fan, it is evident that the bracket which attaches the blade to the fan assembly failed. It appease to be made of cast aluminum and completely broke into 2 pieces.
