The product, in the report: It’s 54” matte black ceiling fan. It was a replacement model sent to us from the original Mara fan recall several years ago. I don’t know the model name for the Mara replacement. It’s still hanging so I can’t access serial numbers yet.
Our Hampton Bay 54” ceiling fan had a blade detach and fly off while it was operating at our home. The fan was on, lower speed and it’s installed on our covered patio. The fan was the replacement fan sent to us from an original King of Fans/Hampton Bay Mara safety recall several years ago.

The product, in the report: UPC 082 392 999 186 Hampton Bay 54-INDO Mena 54-Inch Ceiling Fan
I purchased 3 Hampton Bay Mena 54 Patio ceiling fans on or about 27 July 2022. The fans are used daily and have been excellent. There was no wobble, humming, vibration from any of the fans. On 15 July 2025, I was astonished when 1 blade flew across the patio. Fortunately, no one was injured and there was no other damage. Unfortunately, since this occurred out of the blue, I am concerned that the event may reoccur if I continue to use these fans/fan blades. I have removed all 3 fans from service. The newer model of this fan uses a different blade attachment. It appears to be much stronger (thicker) where the blade attaches to the fan.

The product, in the report: It would appear to be a Hampton Bay ceiling fan based on the serial number. Model 05 096 HC 42D
Metal bracket that attaches ceiling fan blade to fan base snapped in two while circulating propelling the blade and shattering a glassed picture frame throughout the room. The bracket should never, ever break if properly manufactured using materials tested under stress simulating a fan’s rigorous circulation. My limited research indicates this is not uncommon with manufacturers selling replacement brackets while failing to address the issue. Though several years old, our fan was manufactured by Hampton Bay a wholly owned subsidiary of Home Depot.

A blade detached from an operating celling fan and flew into wall causing a damage, but a much greater concern is safety. This is a recently professionally installed Celling Fan, the Hampton Bay Mena 54 inch. Purchased from Home Depot Store [REDACTED] on June 10, 2021, installed on June 12. The incident happened only after ~3 weeks of operation. I found a recall on your site for a slightly different model of this fan from the same manufacturer [REDACTED]

Two fan blades fell off my Hampton Bay Mena fan when a gust of wind came through (the fan was installed on a covered porch) . This fan is very similar to the [REDACTED] fan that was recalled in 2020. The fan had only been installed for about a week. We came out one morning to find one of the blades on the ground. The fan had not been running. Two days later, before I took the fan down, we watched as a gust of wind came through and another blade came off (again the fan was not running). The blades did not detach, but rather snapped so that a piece of the blade was still attached to the fan. I called customer service and at first they were going to send out a new blade. After the second blade fell off they requested the fan back and created a case - [REDACTED]

I would like to report Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Model AC-552, UPC # 792145352891 which was installed in my bedroom. While spinning, the fan fell from the ceiling. The bracket remains attached to the ceiling, indicating that it is not a result of the ceiling structure, rather is a result of the fan itself malfunctioning. The fan fell from the ceiling causing sparks and would have caused great injury to anyone who was standing underneath it, or any property that was underneath it. Fortunately, there was open ground and no one was standing there at the time so no injuries occurred.

The product, in the report: Recalled Hampton Bay 54 in. Mara Indoor/Outdoor ceiling fan the one that broke was white. I have 3 white and 2 black. We are elderly and had them installed, and can’t get up to them to see any more information about them.
I have 5 of these ceiling fans in my home, all purchased at the same time. Last night the one in the Kitchen threw a blade clear into the living room. By the time I got to the fan to turn it off, it had thrown the second blade. I had just left the kitchen so by the grace of God I was not injured. I have 5 of these fans that I can’t use now and will need them removed and replaced. We live in Arizona and really need our fans.

From:[REDACTED] Sent: Monday, December 28, 2020 3:01 PM To: :[REDACTED] Cc: Clearinghouse <Clearinghouse@cpsc.gov> Subject: Hampton Bay 54” Ceiling Fan Recall
Good afternoon, I am writing to find out how to get a refund for my ceiling fan that has been recalled. We purchased the fan from Home Depot in late May/early June 2020. We installed the fan on June 10, 2020. On June 18, 2020 a fan blade flew off and hit me and then my TV screen (shown in pics attached). I had to replace my TV and ended up in Urgent Care to make sure my wrist wasn’t broken (it was not, just a bad sprain and bruise). Please advise on what your company can do to remedy this situation.
Thank you, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Hampton Bay Mara Ceiling Fan white
Ceiling fan was running normally for several weeks. I heard a loud crash and thumping. When I ran into my living room I saw the fan spinning wildly from being of balance and hitting against the ceiling. One of the fan blades was thrown from the unit and landed on the other side of the room. Fortunately we were home and in the next room, and able to turn it off immediately. No one was injured and the blade miraculously missed a window.

The product, in the report: This is a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with 4 hanging light and five reversible blades one of which broke off and flew over our heads and across the room.
The living room Ceiling Fan (a Hampton Bay brand fan-with five reversible blades and four lights) attached to the ceiling was operating at its upper speed level. Suddenly without warning one of the blades broke off and flew over our heads and landed on the floor behind where we sat on the couch about ten feet away from the fan. Examination of the blade showed a total break in the metal strut/armature? connecting the blade to the fan. This strut showed jagged edges which would easily have caused physical damage to us if it had struck our bodies. Three people were in the room and under the fan at the time of the incident watching television.

The product, in the report: Roll over image to zoom in Home Decorators Collection Home Decorators Collection Altura 68 in. Oil Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan
Our ceiling fan failed (professionally installed, two years old) and the motor and blades separated from the bottom of the stem and fell approximately 20’ down onto our wooden coffee table and broke it in half. Luckily this happened at 3am, as its quite often during daylight hours my young daughters are leaning over that table coloring, or someone is sitting on the couch with their legs on that coffee table. Had this fans motor hit one of my daughters they most certainly would have sustained catastrophic injuries.

The product, in the report: Hampton Bay Huntington III ceiling fan
Hampton Bay ceiling fan, model Huntington III (model No. EF200D). Has been installed more than 10 years. The fan hangs on a plastic hemisphere that surrounds the down rod (the “hanger ball”). Last night this plastic part fractured into three parts, and the entire fan fell to the floor. The fixture was not even in use at the time. No injuries, but as the fan was mounted over a bed, there could have been, given that a 25 pound fixture.
I contacted Hampton Bay and was told that 1) the fan is no longer manufactured; 2) there are no recalls; 3) there are no replacement parts; and 4) tough luck (in so many words).
I am particularly concerned as I have two more of these fans installed in my house.

The product, in the report: Ceiling fan
The plastic support ball at the top of the down rod for the ceiling fan failed. The assembly fell about 10 feet to the floor of the living room. There was evidence of electrical arcing when the live wires pulled free in the electrical supporting box. No electrical fuses were tripped. The fan was running at its slowest speed when the failure occurred. No one was present at the time. It is a pretty heavy assembly. If it had hit squarely on a child it could have caused a very serious injury. There was also the possibility of an electrical fire. I believe the fan is at least 10-15years old. If you need pictures or additional information please contact me.

The product, in the report: Brown Hampton Bay ceiling fan with light fixture
Brown Hampton Bay ceiling fans that I just purchased have stopped working after a few months and a couple of the light bulbs burst and broke. The ceiling fans are installed in my living room and bedroom. When turning on the fan in my bedroom the light burst and sent glass flying everywhere. And the unit in my living has stopped working all together.

The product, in the report: We bought a fan about 5 years ago that has been very problematic and downright dangerous. The # is 0711569 and the UPC code is 082392247553. We mounted this ceiling fan in our sunroom and about 2 years ago we found spackle on the coffee table and then looked up and saw that the fan was hanging by its electrical cords! If that had fallen on someone it could have killed them or broken a neck. At the very least it could have fallen on our glass coffee table in the middle of the night and given us all a good scare! The problem is the mounting bracket. It is open on one end and the post and spacer “wiggle” out of it over time. All ceiling fans have to have some play to accommodate their natural wiggling. We fixed it only to have it happen again a couple weeks ago. Luckily my husband reinforced it with a metal chain if it happened again so no one would get hurt. This fan needs to be recalled, seriously. It has the potential to be deadly. I did contact Hampton Bay 2 times with their promise to get back to me and that has not happened.

This caller is reporting a bathroom fan that was purchased from a home goods retailer in Louisiana around January 12th, 2017. He is reporting this because others who are not electrically informed and are following the manufacturers directions could install t his fan in their own or another’s bathroom and unwittingly cause human or property hazards. There are no known injuries at this time This consumer contacted the manufacturer Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 and was advised only that the representative, [REDACTED] would forward the information to their manufacturer in China.

The product, in the report: Ceiling Fan blades
This caller is reporting and incident with a ceiling fan purchased from retailer in and installed by the same retailer’s tech around 2008.
She has had no problems with this ceiling fan until the night of August 5th, 2016 when the caller went to bed with the fan running as usual then heard a loud sound and rose to find that two of the blades had fallen from the fan and had hit about two feet from her head.
When she woke the next morning she saw that there were two gouges in her wall that is about five feet from where she had been lying.
She is reporting this incident as a severe injury hazard.
Her small grandchild sleeps with her and she states that the child could have been seriously injured if the blades had come just two feet further.
There are no injuries being reported
She contacted the manufacturer Monday August 8th, 2016, she was offered replacement blades but then notified that the fan in question was no longer available.
They have asked for any information she has for the fan but they are questioning because she has no receipt from the eight year old purchase.

The product, in the report: Ceiling fans, specifically a defective remote control receiver module
My tenant complained about 2 Hampton Bay ceiling fans (model no. CF546KR, UPC no 845952000032) not working. Upon inspection, it turns out that on each fan, a wireless receiver module (model UC7067RC) had been charred from one or more electrical components on the receiver. I am extremely concerned about this evidence, for obvious reasons.

No one hurt Made Aug 6, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 29, 2011
The product, in the report: 68” 5 blade ceiling fan - down rod that came with the fan was being used.
We purchased a Hampton Bay Altura 68” 5 blade ceiling fan from Home Depot (store 0464) in September 2010. The ceiling fan was hung by my husband (who is an engineer). It has been hanging for over 10 months in the master bedroom (partially overhanging our bed). This morning the ceiling fan bolts failed and the entire fan fell from the ceiling missing my head and my 8 month old daughter by inches. My husband and 3 year old daughter were also on the bed and a few feet away. In addition to the 40 lb falling weight glass shattered everywhere.
Upon examination, my husband has determined that the bolts that came with the ceiling fan are too narrow to fit a standard ceiling mount. They thread with the ceiling mount but there is too much play in them so that they can be moved laterally when screwed in. The failure mode is that because the bolts were slightly too small, they were able to vibrate loose over time.
